Introducing Nokia Diagnostics

Published by Steve Litchfield at 8:57 UTC, February 4th 2010

Nokia Beta Labs has debuted an 'experimental' application, Nokia Diagnostics, aimed at helping S60 5th Edition users diagnose, troubleshoot, and configure their devices "with ease on their own". See below for the launch video and details.

From the Beta labs post:

"With Nokia Diagnostics, you can diagnose, troubleshoot and configure your device using five different tests:

  • Network Coverage test. You can get all the network related information and detect offline status & SIM card presence.
  • Internet Connectivity test. Perform a real-time Internet connectivity test and identify the setting with which you can have a seamless internet access.
  • Battery Charger test. Check if your device charges properly with the charger connected.
  • Loudspeaker, Earpiece test. Check your loudspeaker & earpiece functionality.

Please download the application (requires login), try it out on your device, and post your feedback at Beta Labs. In particular, we are interested in hearing about other diagnostic tests you would expect to see in such an application."

"Nokia Diagnostics application is supported only on S60 5th edition devices. It is not supported and may not work with S60 3rd edition devices."

Has Nokia completely given up on developing software for S60v3? They're still selling those phones for god sake.

I don't understand why Nokia doesn't support applications like this for s60v3 platform. Nokia please wake up and look how many v3 mobiles is in the wild. And please don't go users mad in the interest of you.

i tried this on my n97 mini and the network signal test did not show a number. it ran the test and said something like "your network signal is ____" and just showed blank where the number should have been.

while i love the idea of this app, i didnt really find the tests all that useful. for example the microphone test basically played the ringtone thru the earpiece. great, but couldn't i do that myself just by calling my phone, or going into the settings and selecting a ringtone? same effect.

how about something that would display whether i am on 850mhz or 1900mhz, and similar items like that. now THAT is what symbian has needed for years. windows mobile has always had this. even the iphone can display the network signal strength in place of the signal indicator, i.e. it shows -88dBm. why can't symbian get a cool utility like this?
