Popping up in the Ovi Store is a native Symbian S60 widget for the social network Brightkite. As the service is based around your location, “checking in” on a mobile device is one of the key actions – previously you could use the website to let everyone know where you are, but this is a much more elegant solution.

The Symbian client is the third from the company set up in 2007 by Brandy Becker and Martin May. With iPhone and Android as the others, Brightkite now has the “first tier geek set” of handsets. You have to assume that Windows Mobile and Blackberry will follow.

New location-based services are going to be popping up, the existing services are going to be doing their best to stay ahead and popular in the game; and, of course, you have tweaks like Lifecasting from Nokia which is a sideways entrance into the Location Networking. Not only do we live in interesting times, but we also know exactly where everyone else is while they live through them as well.
