With Skype's native Symbian incarnation still somewhat AWOL, it's interesting to see that Nimbuzz has stepped into the breach with their own pay-as-you-go VoIP to traditional number service, dubbed NimbuzzOut. More details and links below.
From the release:
"NimbuzzOut lets you make incredibly cheap international calls from your mobile, to landlines and mobiles anywhere in the world. It’s the first pay-as-you-go product that we’ve ever offered, and it will transform your mobile into the cheapest way to make international calls – who would have thunk it?!
From today, you can purchase NimbuzzOut credits direct from www.nimbuzzout.com or your Nimbuzz mobile app and save up to 95% on the cost of a traditional international mobile call!"
Comments welcome in terms of compatibility with different Symbian-powered smartphones, if you've got the time to try it. Here's the NimbuzzOut launch video:
Astounding! They've removed the SkypeOut functionality in Nimbuzz and replaced with their NimbuzzOut. At Fring HQ they'll probably be having a party right now, because for people like me who have SkypeOut credits and/or find Skype's rates cheaper, Fring has suddenly become the only game in town. Foot: aim, shoot.

Another Fring vote here. Haven't used a Skype app (even though i use Skype) for ages.

Nimbuzz is useless for VoIP in low speed connection, while Fring performs outstandingly, even at 28.8 kbits.
My vote for Fring

SkypeOut is not removed. Just click on the topbar in the client. I still use it.
And I tried Fring for several weeks but honestly.... it is a terrible client and killed my battery and always unstable.
I love Nimbuzz but people are free to choose.

I don't think at Fring HQ they having a party now while they don't have a solution like SkypeOut and NimbuzzOut. Actually they are not making money at all! I wonder how long they will be alive.... bye bye Fring. Hello Nimbuzz!

Skype is definitly not cheaper than NimbuzzOut
I've checked, and basically depends on where you call to. For example, a call to Luxembourg is cheaper on Skype (EUR 0.020 / MIN) than on Nimbuzz (EUR 0.027 / MIN). Not to mention the fact that NimbuzzOut coverage currently doesn't come close to match Skype's. No NimbuzzOut calls to Russia, for example.

Fring has SkypeOut, you seem misinformed. Let me guess... you're a Nimbuzz employee posting anonymously?

It looks like you're right. They've not removed it, they just hid it to promote their own service. Using Nimbuzz is really not an option for me currently, as they don't support VoIP in the i8910 HD (while Fring does), but as long as it continues to have SkypeOut I might consider using it on my next phone.

No, it's not the same thing. All of the apps that do VOIP are gatewaying you (proxying you) to the server you want. First you go through their server.
For example if you use skype from Nimbuzz or Fring you are going to Fring's servers first and then to skype. This causes latency that makes your call sound wierd and have delays.
NimbuzzOut is like skype out meaning that you pay for it. But you go to Nimbuzz's servers and then out, there is no second tier of servers. Therefore it's much more like a normal phone call, or using skype out from your PC. That's the difference. And it's pretty cheap, cheaper than skype out.
NimbuzzOut isn't perfect but until we get a real SIP client for S60 5th phones it's a good solution.
