BBC Radio RealMedia streams to be phased out?

The BBC has announced that its old RealMedia radio streams, still bookmarked/used by some knowledgable S60 phone owners to listen to the BBC's network of stations, are to be phased out at the end of March 2010, to be replaced by iPlayer/Flash solutions. The decision isn't without controversy, as you'll see from the extensive comments thread - if this affects you then I suggest you get involved.

Good old Beeb, giving with one hand (lovely iPlayer) and taking with the other. However, it's not all bad news.
Those with recent Nokia N series phones just need to go over to www.BBCStreams.com to stream national and local BBC stations :) If your phone doesn't support .asx natively, you can install Coreplayer.
They have an iPhone app in the works as well and - best of all - you can stream BBC radio via BBCStreams outside of the UK! Nice!

Installed Coreplayer Mobile on my N86 8mp to listen to the BBC stations and it works a treat, just make sure you have a generous data plan or listen at home on the wi-fi.
Shame the Real Player feeds are being phased out but life goes on. Now jst waiting for my firmware update, as the phone is O2 and I'm still waiting for the supplier-specific firmware. Maybe time for a bit of NSS!! :tongue:
