WRT – Another arrow or killer weapon?

Web development standards — HTML, CSS and JavaScript — are a front runner in the quest to provide an accessible development environment for Symbian. However, Web Runtime (WRT) has its limitations and, across the industry as a whole, is rather fragmented. “The issue with WRT is that everyone has gone ‘wow, this is pretty cool, let’s create our own extensions’. As a result there are many variations developers have to deal with,” says Robert. “Ultimately, given that we are open source, my goal is to support as many APIs as possible. If a widget has been created for Palm WebOS, I hope Symbian will understand the packaging and the JavaScript extensions so that the widget can install and run with no porting.

it's all about sticking to the standards now for all the runtime providers!

the diversity of widget engines and the features ans APIs they support is becoming increasingly muddled.

i am doing some research in this area and i'd love to see the poll mentioned in the article:
