Sony Ericsson gearing developers up for Satio

Last week, in the developer section, I posted an interview with Christopher David, Head of Developer and Partner Engagement on Sony Ericsson’s plans to re-engage with Symbian developers for the Satio launch. It seems to have been quite timely, as additional information is starting to break cover.

In the interview Christopher commented that “We believe it is far better for developers’ applications to be visible in a more focused channel. Gaining that visibility is all about thinking in terms of the user experience offered by a phone — such as Satio with its 12 mega pixel camera and strong focus on imaging and entertainment — and how to deliver applications that complement or enhance the user experience. Developers who can do this can gain an elevated position in the Sony Ericsson sales channels (PlayNow arena and Fun & downloads) that deliver application and content to our customers.”

As we went on to discuss, building to a unique user experience that developers cannot yet experiences is a little hard (read here for more). However, part of Sony Ericsson’s strategy is to make as much use of web channels as possible to disseminate information about Satio. A start to this process is shown in this Youtube video showcasing the Open GL ES 2.0 capabilities offered by Satio.

This video features in an article that reviews the OpenGL ES 2.0 support in Satio and offers some useful pointers on where to get more information and tools.
