I haven't mentioned this for a while, but I've been doing lots of little updates to my (hopefully comprehensive) S60 device comparison table. From 7650 to N93, and from free RAM to camera resolution...
Thanks to the E60 Blog for the heads-up over a new version of Nokia's PC Suite. v6.81 promises bug fixes, prettier windows and an 'improved mobile music experience with Nokia Music Manager'. Harumph - but will it now let us access an online CD database? Comments welcome!
Many AAS regulars will know my preference for clean and simple themes without annoying and distracting backgrounds. Kudos to the guy behind the E60 Blog for this super-clean White theme. Why not make your screen brighter and clearer?
So there I was, gearing up for writing a tutorial on taking better pictures with your smartphone, and I spotted the About Nokia blog, which has just done it for me, covering all the same things I was going to say.... Recommended reading.
There are now Nokia E70 and N93 video reviews in Programme 13 of the Smartphones Show video podcast. I admit I was a little crazy thinking I could demo and sum up the N93 in only 12 minutes of footage, but hey, at least you get to see me fondling it...
The Carnival of the Mobilists moves on to Judy Breck's SmartMobs. Just the ticket if you fancy some thought-provoking mobile-related reading material...
A hard date at last for the long, soooo long awaited Sony Ericsson P990i, with Expansys quoting this Friday for its arrival. £600 SIM-free though - anyone brave enough to order one?
Tommi, over at the S60 Applications blog, adds his tuppence worth (or should that be two Euros?) to the great applications/sales debate, with an interesting cartoon. But Tommi, have you missed that AllAboutSymbian has its own software shop too? (Note for newbies - buying through it helps support this site)
Interesting to get an email from EpocWare. After many user requests about their top-rated security tool Handy Safe (ok, ok, so most of the AAS team use it), they've added full data import from CodeWallet, eWallet and SplashID, plus various other features. Read on...
Roll up, roll up, all you gadget freaks - the Nokia E70 and N93 are now added to my heavily updated and interactive Grid - which is the best device for you - fill in your preferences and let the Grid decide. Comments welcome, as always!!
One of the questions I see when surfing blogs of regular people with the N91 music phone is "How do I get my Album art onto the phone?" Well Darla has the answer on her blog.
In a somewhat more generic article than usual, Symbian's David Wood talks about the importance of not overlooking basic organiser functions in today's smartphones. Here's his latest Insight article.
Presenting the latest Q2 smart mobile device figures from analysts Canalys: Smartphone sales up 75% year on year; Symbian OS powers 67% of units worldwide, Windows Mobile second on 15%; standalone handheld sales down 33% year on year; Nokia sell almost six times the number of smartphones as their nearest competitor. Read on for the full Canalys press release.
See into S60, one of Nokia's S60 blogs, has put up a short page of tips for their own free Podcasting application. Good stuff, guys, and there's more on podcasting (both downloading and recording your own) coming from AAS in the near future.
Rafe's been chatting to Colin Mercer, the man behind the Nokia-sponsored 'All About N91' blog (no, nothing to do with AAS, depite the name). An interesting and open blog with no corporate agenda? A good way to bring developers, journalists and users together?
