A demo of Nokia's upcoming next gen game System Rush Evolution is now available for download from the N93 software support page. It will install and run on other S60 3rd Edition phones, not just the N93. Unfortunately it's unplayably slow on the E61 I tested it on, presumably because the E61 doesn't have the N93's 3D graphics accelerator chip. If that's the case, then we can probably expect a slew of new 3D-accelerated S60 models to appear early next year in time for the launch of Nokia's Next Gen games.
Kudos to Andy Abramson for assembling the biggest and best tips page for the Nokia N91 hard-disk music smartphone - everything you ever needed to know about keeping this very different device going... (via Darla).
Thanks to WOM's N95 site for the heads up on plenty more photos and video of the Nokia N95, including a very interesting walkthrough of how the integrated GPS receiver and mapping software works. Also a link to a new user Nseries video blog.
The Communities Dominate Brands Blog is this weeks host of Carnival of the Mobilists. Now in its 47 edition the carnival brings you the usual wide ranging mix of writing on mobile issues from around the web.
SEPT Solutions have launched the first version of Mobile Office, their Open Office (OpenDocument) file viewers, for S60 3rd Edition. Versions for 2nd Edition, Series 80 and UIQ will follow, along with editing functionality.
Well, almost. In fact, Nokia has released the official Feature Pack 1 theme (and very pretty it is too) as a download for all other S60 3rd Edition devices. Go on, make believe you've got an N95!
Simon Judge has done a good job in compiling a database/directory of software specifically for Symbian OS 9 devices, along with some interesting comments. Well worth a look for trial versions and research, though don't forget that by coming back here and actually buying the apps through our own software shop, you're helping keep All About Symbian going. Thanks!
I was interested to see this blog entry reviewing one of the cheap add-on macro lenses that you can buy for standard fixed-focus smartphone cameras. Good stuff - but I can't find anywhere that sells them online - over to you guys in the comments?
Richard Bloor takes a detailed look at the Sony Ericsson P990i (yes, we have one now, too - Rafe's testing it while in the USA), reviewing it with his developer hat on. Plenty of interesting observations and a positive perspective on this latest UIQ 3 device.
Thanks to Techmundo for pointing us towards the official Flash demo of the new features in Nokia's upcoming revamp of their S60 3rd Edition web browser. Now, I wonder whether this will make it into NSU firmware updates for our current devices?
OK, so we're jealous that the folks over in the USA are going to be the only ones getting the Nokia N75 - as we're not going to be able to review it, we'll just have to link to other sites that are in the right place. Here's an initial mini-review from PhoneScoop.
This weeks Carnival of the Mobilists is hosted by Matthew Miller at the Mobile Gadgeteer. He rounds up the best writing about mobile from around the web.
