AllAboutSymbian audio podcast 7 is now online, in which Ewan interviews Brian Jaquet from Slingmedia - how does his streaming TV Slingbox concept work?
These crazy Russians. One chap has decided to put the Nokia 5500's ruggedised pretensions to the test by vacuuming it up, washing it, soaking it in milk, dropping it from a great height and then running over it in a car. And er.... it still worked. Not bad, Nokia!
Nokia has now put up its official N95 product page on the Nseries site, with animations, spotlights and full technical specifications. And the good news is that it's still scheduled to arrive within the next 3 months.
I've been adding to and fleshing out my original Nokia N93 'TV out' showcase - see the revised 'Powerhouse in your pocket' feature. And, of course, everything mentioned in this piece will now also apply in equal measure to the upcoming N95 and other top-end future Nseries devices.
Nokia's Jaakko Kaidesoja gave a very interesting interview to Pocket Gamer at the Nokia World event. Apparently, there will be between five and seven S60 3rd Edition smartphones which will support Nokia's Next Gen gaming platform when it launches next year, presumably with that number expanding after the launch as even newer models appear. Here's the interesting bit though: "Some of (the smartphones) are already being sold today ... if you have one of those devices, you'll just have to go to our website, download the application to your phone." Frustratingly however, he declines to say which models these are. (Thanks to Symbian Freak for pointing this story out!)
Nokia has unveiled the Nokia 6290, a 'midrange' 3G smartphone based on S60 3rd Edition. The Nokia 6290 is expected to begin shipping in Q1 2007 with an estimated retail price of 325 Euros before subsidies or taxes. New features include multiple alarms and handy 'Quick Cover' access keys, plus an interactive world travel application. Pictures and the full press release below...
Well, we weren't going to comment on the much-leaked photos of the Nokia N93i, complete with metallic finish and keypad, no cover display and slightly slimmer form factor, but it seems that the device does exist as even Nokia's own PR blog is now linking to the snaps...
There's at least one regular AAS user who has one of the pre-production Nokia N95's, and you can follow his progress with it or ask questions right here in the forums.
Nokia is going to be one of the main sponsors of GDC Mobile, the phone game part of the Game Developers Conference. GDC and GDC Mobile take place in San Francisco from the 5th to the 7th of March 2007. Nokia's Next Generation gaming platform is due to launch across a range of S60 3rd Edition smartphones some time in the first half of 2007, so a March sponsorship of a major gaming event would seem to be well-timed.
Our first two podcasts feature the lightning talks from the All About Symbian pub meet. First up was my talk about what AAS has done in the last year and some of our future plans. Second was Lars Linstrom from Sony Ericsson who talked about the M600, P990 and W950 UIQ phones. In our videocast Steve takes a hands on look at the Nokia N93 Golf Edition.
