Yet another 'trojan' to beware of...

Yet another warning for users of S60 2nd Edition devices from F-Secure, reports Symbian Freak, with the twist that this time there's a financial angle. As usual, the malware poses as a utility on a file sharing site, so that the user accepts the installation prompts, etc. Just steer clear, and stick to downloads from reputable sites like, oh, off the top of my head, AllAboutSymbian...

Direct Downloads to Nokia Video Manager

Nokia Video Manager has been updated to version 1.5 and now supports the direct download of videos. Videos can be downloaded from the web via special links (nvd://) directly into Nokia Video Manager making it easier to get videos on to phones such as the Nokia N95. Metacafe is one site that supports this functionality and we've added it to All About Symbian too. Read on for more.

Google Maps for Mobile extends official support

Want another free alternative to Nokia's free Smart2go? Although available unofficially for much of the world for a while now, it seems that Google has made support for Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom official for its Google Maps for Mobile Java app. If you've got a meaty data tariff or Wi-Fi, it features mapping, routing, satellite images and a business directory. And traffic info, though this wouldn't work for me. See also their YouTube slideshow.

BBC to trial syndication of TV channels over 3G

The BBC has announced plan to begin a 12 month trial to syndicate its TV channels over 3G mobile phone networks in the UK with operators 3, Orange and Vodafone. A number of radio channels will also be available. Separately the BBC has also announced an enhanced version of  the BBC Mobile site.

Symbian OS 9.5

Today at CTIA, Symbian is announcing version 9.5 of its operating system. The new version delivers improved performance including lower memory and processor requirements, more multimedia features including support for advanced camera features, better PC connectivity, support for DVB-H and ISDB-T Mobile TV standards and improved network and connection management features. Symbian 9.5 is fully backwardly compatible with all member of the Symbian 9.x family. Read on for more.
