Every year at the Smartphone Show, I have a long chat with Malcolm Lithgow, Managing Director of Australian based software house Dreamspring. Since their first software was released on the Psion Series 5, they’ve continued to support the Symbian OS platform through various versions. The company has grown both in influence and in ambition, and as Symbian OS rapidly earns the ‘mature’ tag, Dreamspring are ready to capitalise on this.
I spoke to Lithgow about where Dreamspring is now, and what plans the company has for the near future. As with many software developers, the goal is to become part of the ‘out of the box’ experience, either as the shareware styled ‘Try and buy’, or to hopefully become a built in application in the firmware. Luckily for Dreamspring, there is interest from a number of handset manufacturers.
With a huge number of developers for Symbian OS, and more arriving thanks to the Motorola/UIQ announcement, it’s nice to hear from one of the smaller companies that has proven itself by still being around after many a year.
