The Symbian ecosystem provides a huge number of tools and suites for businesses, and in many cases it is the practical workhorse applications that can have a company switch to a smartphone/mobile based strategy for their workforce. Any area where communication is vital can benefit from a well thought out communications package, and that’s where eLeader (www.eleader.eu) comes in.
I spoke to eLeader’s Scott Lowe at the recent Symbian Smartphone Show about the company and what they do – in essence they can provide the nuts and bolts that will allow a company to put a sales team out in the field, and keep them in touch with all the relevant details, and give them communication back to base as well.
The majority of Symbian devices are aimed at the consumer, and while the S60 E series devices are aimed at Enterprise, they tend to focus on individual productivity (e.g. the bundled Office applications) – for companies wanting to roll out a set of devices, a third party 'beyond the handset' manufacturer or network operator is required, and that’s where eLeader comes in. Their long history using and developing for Symbian OS means that tailoring a solution for a company can be done in a very short period, and (as Lowe mentions in the podcast), they can easily offer trial versions, just like the shareware market.
