The Nokia N82 gets v30 too!
I'd been holding off on this until it was fully available - but now the Nokia N82 just got its v30 firmware upgrade too, following on from the v30 upgrades for N95 and N95 8GB, with similar (but not identical) improvements, namely more stable Flash Lite 3, Maps 2.0, new Music player visualisations and increased speed and overall performance, less sensitive auto-screen rotation, Share online 3.0, plus numerous other detailed fixes and improvements, including better battery life. Sadly, the dim display 'feature' hasn't been fixed. But with UDP (User Data Preservation) in place you shouldn't need to restore data or apps or settings. But - you know - an extra sync of your PIM data might be a good idea - just in case?
Read on in the full article.

Steve, do you know if the N-Gage app built into the new firmware?

No, there's no N-Gage client. I'm guessing that the UDP (User Data Preservation - which works BRILLIANTLY, by the way) wouldn't play right with the replacement of the N-Gage stub with the full client.....

Steve,
Is the firmware applicable to Asia Pacific Region?

Brightness
I have discovered one application - navigational program Naviexpert ( www.naviexpert.pl) - that uses full screen brightness of N82. It's probably written in java. Full brightness works only in Naviexpert, if I switch to another app (with Naviexpert running in the background) brightness goes back to normal dim screen.

Hmmmm..... UDP may have seemed to work brilliantly, but something's not right under the hood.
Data's all there, apps are all there, but I'm getting crashes and freezes. This is what happens when you try combining system files from one OS version with another.... 8-(
Going to hard reset and rebuild, based on v30 etc.

Is there an option to NOT use UDP, i.e. do things the old-fashioned way and update the phone by completely replacing the old firmware?

Shame that now the search content spans 2 lines and they've added 'share online' on the active standby screen. Other than that, doesn't feel any faster than v20.

I've lost the shortcut to silent profile
a long press on the # key no longer toggles the silent profile. Am I the only one ?

Answers:
1) No, I don't have EVERY handset. But I do have most of the good ones 8-) And some are Rafe's.....!!
2) The hard reset procedure worked fine. Proving that UDP isn't the answer to everything - it certainly screwed up here. Personally, I think Nokia should keep user data and apps and some settings but delete most config files under the hood, to minimise this sort of incompatibility....
3) And yes, # to silence works fine here.

My sentiments exactly(as I expressed over a week ago at SF when it was initially avail), it would have also been decent of Nokia to provide settings for the asr, like a very well known 3rd party freeware app imo.
