Flash Video and Web Runtime hit the Nokia N82

In perhaps the biggest and most long-awaited firmware upgrade in the S60 world for many months, the so-far flakey Nokia N82 finally had its uber-upgrade released, to v20.0.062. See below for details, but the main additions are the addition of Flash Lite 3 (and Flash video) and integrated GPS Location tagging; plus Web runtime (widgets).

Read on in the full article.

no not longest

longest most awaited update is still the n95-3. Nokia's north american users have been shamefully abandoned. Perhap its time the bloggers gave some coverage to it and started pointing the finger.

N95-3? No idea what Nokia are playing at there.... Nokia, how about it? Interestingly, there was a whole new version of NSU launched yesterday, and with the current crop of FL3-enabled firmwares, plus N-Gage going live and some devices needing to be brought up to par in order to work with it, plus oddities like updates disappearing temporarily for the likes of the E61i, lead me to guess that there are a whole new raft of new firmwares coming for a lot of S60 devices.

So patience. Let's see where we stand in a month's time. I'm guessing there will be new firmware for all N95 variants, for N93, for N73, for N93i, for E90, and so on. And many of these will have UDP, I'll bet.

Re: downloading. No, NSU is a PC program. If it's not working for you, then redownload or sort out your Windows installation.

UDP is going to be a big win for everyone. I hate the inconsistency of upgrading currently - some things work and others don't. It always takes me a couple of days to get the phone "back to rights" after a firmware upgrade - and it's always push e-mail that causes me the most grief.

How long did it take you to do the update? It's been 30 minutes and I'm starting to get VERY nervous.

Maps 1.0, but the v2.0 beta installed fine over the top 8-)

Time? Ooh, it went very fast. But this was 10.30 this morning. Try again tomorrow, perhaps, when the Internet's faster? If you mean the firmware-burning bit is going slow, then yes, that IS worrying!!

Angry N95-3 - full refund

I bought a N95-3 last week... had it a few days only to find little to no evidence that it will ever be updated. Realizing i made a mistake, I called the supplier (a large US chain) and have feigned that the product was defective, though it works fine. I've gotten a full refund and now they are stuck with either dumping or reselling it. This is bad for Nokia and the supplier but this is how I screw you back when you screw me. When I make a $600 investment, I don't expect to be left out in the cold while older and cheaper devices get all the love.

Hope Nokia takes the North American market seriously some day.

Talking Is it Tuesday or Idiotday?

I love it how people always try to point the finger when they are idiots. @ "unregistered", youre pissed off at the manufacturer (Nokia) because you went out and bought a $600 phone without doing research. I have the N95-3 and it is head and shoulders above any other phone, with or without a new firmware upgrade. Also, maybe if you had some patience, you wouldnt look like such a moron. What? you expect Nokia to come out with a firmware update right away just because YOU went out and bought the phone? I hope you dont change your mind and decide on getting the N95 again, I wouldnt want people to think idiots use the N95.
