Picking up a genuine European white Nokia 808 for £342 all in?

Published by at

One of the biggest frustrations about the Nokia 808 PureView has been not being able to still buy it anywhere. Sellers on Amazon UK have turned out to be importing stock from Malaysia, with obvious concerns over warranty. However, I did notice that Amazon Germany have a seller claiming to have full 'Euro' stock devices (which default to English, apparently) - going through the shopping basket system revealed an end price (including 20 Euros for shipping) of £342. Which, I contend, is still very decent for the last great Symbian smartphone. What do you think?

Here's the current listing on Amazon Germany (helpfully part translated by Google Chrome!):

The tricky bit, at least, is for someone else in another country, possibly using a different currency, to buy the device. However, it seems that Amazon handles that these days, first of all verifying that you want to use your credit card in your own currency:

...And then putting up some statements that make sense and that you have to agree with - essentially agreeing to their conversion rate:

Yikes, it seems as though you can't get many Euros for a pound now - I guess that means my own currency has become stronger! Ah well, it's still a good price for a new Nokia 808 PureView - and in white too!

Anecdotal evidence suggests that the 808s coming through Amazon Germany come up in English (but with other Euro languages built-in), though I'd welcome comment from anyone who's bought European hardware before and had to face a warranty situation in the UK - how did it work out?
