GoPro Browser now available for Symbian too!

Published by at

GoPro Browser is a specialised application for mobile which lets you browse and download videos and photos over Wifi directly from a GoPro Hero 2 (with Wifi BacPac) or Hero 3 White/Silver/Black Edition camera. It's been available for Android and iOS for a while but is now out for Symbian too, with only one minor caveat.

From the developer site:

  • Access GoPro Hero 2 and 3 White/Silver/Black Edition over Wifi (WLAN)
  • Quick thumbnail preview of videos and photos directly on the Hero camera
  • Download and save videos and photos on your mobile device

Note that, on Symbian, video thumbnails are not supported (but video streaming is supported!)

The video below demonstrates the GoPro Browser app which "allows you to access video and photo files (full resolution) on your GoPro Hero 2 and 3 White/Silver/Black Edition directly from your Nokia Symbian^3 (Anna/Belle) mobile device".

You can find more information here on the developer's site or buy it directly for just over 2 Euros (note that it's not yet in the Nokia Store). There are also instructions to enable file access on the Hero 3 Black Edition.

Once bought, it's advised to upgrade your GoPro camera to one of the latest firmwares with app support. Then it's just a matter of enabling WiFi on your phone and connecting to your camera using the GoPro's Wifi password specified during setup.

I've no direct experience of the GoPro ruggedised cameras, but have only heard good things about them. And now you can pull your content off onto a Symbian smartphone, which is pretty cool. Comments welcome if you decide to buy the utility and give it a whirl!
