Slide To Unlock, currently free and offering N9-style double-tap unlocking

Guest poster Ow Kah Leong has reported in on one of his favourite utilities, Slide To Unlock (from the developers behind the much respected Thumbnail Folders), see below for screens, etc. It doesn't quite offer N9 levels of unlocking coolness, but it's not far off...

I was always fascinated by how a N9 can be unlocked with just two taps on the screen. That just raises its cool factor up a few notches. Therefore I am particularly interested in phone unlocking apps, and I have tried quite a few.

Last week I chanced upon this app, Slide To Unlock by Lanternsoft. These are same guys who brought you LockScreenAudio and Thumbnail Folders, which are useful little apps in their own right. As the name implies, this mini app presents 2 ways to unlock the phone. The unique point is that it can unlock the phone without touching any buttons, N9 style.

The first way is to slide two fingers from left to right or from top to bottom. This works very well when holding the phone in the right hand and performing the sliding action with the left. It doesn’t quite 'work' when sliding in the opposite direction, as it just doesn’t seem natural.

The second way is to put one finger on the screen and then double tap with another finger. This method is especially cool as it tries its best to mimic the N9. Especially cool when your phone is lying face-up on the table and you double-tap to unlock.

The only other options are to choose to unlock to the standard homescreen (or whatever application was last in the foreground) or the lockscreen; and whether or not to Autostart the app. That's all the options to play with. Since it’s a single-function app, there’s not much in which to poke around.

Since it is currently available for free for a limited time on Nokia Store, there’s really no harm downloading and installing the app. Have some fun in surprising your family and friends!
