Plants vs Zombies now officially on Symbian(ish)

Better late than never, I guess. And it should be noted that Plants Vs Zombies for Symbian is actually written in Java, partly accounting for the slightly retro animation and low byte count. The trial's also extremely limited, so if you're a Plants Vs Zombies fan then you'll want to go almost immediately to the full commercial version. Screenshots below!

Here's Plants Vs Zombies in action:

This is a full Electronic Arts-published title, but the Java implementation here does lack a little of the graphical polish of the early HD Symbian-native titles, to be honest...

Introducing the heroes - your plants....

... and the villains, the zombies! As levels progress, both heroes and villians multiply in number and type.

Throughout the game, you collect sunlight and then plant errr... plants, with which to defend your house from the encroaching...

...zombies. Eek... Luckily, they can be repelled if fired upon by enough peas from your peashooters.

Plants Vs Zombies is thus a real time, pseudo Tower Defense title. You choose what to plant, where to plant, the action unfolds in simplified form on screen, and so forth....

New plants and zombies get introduced like this and also with on-screen hints as you progress.

The cute lawnmower is the game's version of a 'loading...' bar!

As levels progress, more lawn is laid...

As usual with Tower Defense games, there's a balance to be struck between combat and infrastructure....

Oops, more peashooters needed, that sunflower was particularly badly placed!

The trial version is limited to just five minutes play, which is very severe, though at least you get an idea of gameplay.

You can grab the trial version here if you want to see that first five minutes, but I strongly recommend that you don't buy through your phone bill, since if you ever have to reset or replace your phone you'd have to buy it again. Instead, buy normally through the Nokia Store here in the full commercial version.

PS. Note also that this game wasn't showing up for all my Symbian devices - your mileage may vary in the Nokia Store. Go complain to Nokia!
