Nimbuzz gains friend search, Twitter improvements and more

Published by at

Nimbuzz, the popular cross-platform instant messaging and VoIP solution, has had a big update to its Symbian client. Version 3.5 adds 'friend search', Twitter improvements and, most importantly, also fixes a certificate issue that had been hanging around for a couple of months and was preventing reinstallation of the client on S60 3rd Edition phones unless you messed around with your phone's date. Details below.

From the Nimbuzz blog:

This version introduces a close integration of ‘Friend Search’ functionality within the Nimbuzz app. Now you can search for your friends in the 100 million strong Nimbuzz community worldwide with just a click of a button.

Whats new?

  • Friends search
  • Twitter Improvements
  • User interface improvements
  • Certification Error issue resolved

Friend Search on Nimbuzz – Nimbuzz is all about connecting you with your friends & family. Now you can expand your friend circle by actually searching through 110 million Nimbuzz profiles. Simply enter your friend’s name, hit Search to list down all matching profiles and add them as your friend to start chatting & calling them for free!

Twitter Improvements – We know that many of our users love to use Twitter from Nimbuzz and therefore we have brought Twitter upfront on Nimbuzz dashboard enabling quick and easy access. We have also fixed a couple of issues in ReTweet functionality for a better Tweeting experience.

In addition, there have been overall user interface improvements, with coloured tabs, an emoticons 'grid' and extra shortcuts in the Dashboard.

Noticed by some was that the Nimbuzz installer couldn't be installed on older S60 3rd Edition devices after the end of October. Whoops. This was a certificate issue and has now been fixed with this update.

Great to see a major published still supporting Symbian OS with feature updates and fixes! You can grab it from get.nimbuzz.com in Web on your phone (the Nokia Store version is still the old one, that will doubtless get updated in the New Year when Nokia staff get back to work).
