Flirty Fish prone to hesitation, swamped in ads

Published by at

Yes, it's an aquatic version of the Bejewelled concept - swap pairs of 'flirty fish' to match rows or columns of three or more fish of the same type and they disappear, with other surrounding fish falling as needed and being replaced at the top. It's a familiar concept but prettily done - with the exception of a totally unreasonable ten second wait between levels and a feeling of being utterly swamped in ads.

Flirty Fish is free here in the Nokia Store.

The main menu - note the Options menu which lets you turn the sound and vibration on and off (though, unintuitively, the settings are effectively reversed, so 'Vibr off' means that it's actually currently ON etc.); and the main gameplay grid - as you match up groups of fish, the score bar at the bottom starts to fill up....

Aha! The Help screen still talks about 'gems'! Not so much with the 'fish' then....; completing a level and tapping 'Next' is followed by a whopping ten second pause before the next level appears, with no indication on the screen that anything is happening. Sorry, but that's completely unacceptable.

In addition to full-screen ads at startup and final close-down, there are also the Migital signup page (which most players really won't need?), plus this very confusing page which appears when you tap on 'Exit'... I think the developer is trying to confuse the player into clicking on the wrong thing!!

Well, Flirty Fish is free and it's colourful, but it's slow and clunky and only recommended if you're a Bejewelled fan who's desperate for a new cosmetic twist on the concept.
