Kudos to developer Hugo van Kemenade for sharing some of the stats from his application Mobbler, giving an insight into the split of active users of Symbian across the various platform releases. For this application, at least! The big takeaway is that, even throughout 2011, by far the biggest download numbers came from S60 3rd and 5th Edition powered phones. 

We should never forget that most smartphone users aren't power geeks and are likely to be far from the cutting edge. Even at the end of 2011, less than a quarter of all downloaders ran Symbian^3/Anna/Belle - I'd have guessed at closer to 50%, so a big surprise.
