Hi!

I have used the newest PC Studio from Samsung and checked my I8510 for available updates but got every time the message that the phone is not supported already. :frown:

How you got this update?

Thanks,
Jorry!

I have just installed Samsung PC Studio 7.7.1.40.8 which is latest one from the Samsung UK website and it see no way to update the software:con?

Ignore the comment above...I am obviously stupid and downloaded the wrong version!!!!

so it means that PC Studio have found any update for your I8510?! which firmware version your I8510 have before?

I have it already installed. Maybe this update is only available for the HH7 firmware version because I have a HHa firmware version on my phone.

yeah thats trye, i canclled my update because it is taking too long to download nad i need my phone.

its doing like 1% every 10 mins

I downloaded the Samsung Studio, plugged the phone, clicked the Phone Software Update, it communicated with some updating central and said I had the latest Firmware (HI1) but recommended I reloaded it, so I did. It is very slow, even if you have 16 mega connection like me, so I left it updating and went to sleep... This morning it was over, everything was still in the phone, so I tried the PSU again and it said I had the latest update, no need for anything...
Well, what I can say isthat the phone is a lot faster than it already was, bluetooth is working better and the video and sound are synched, but I think they always were. Lets see about the battery. Peace.

Keep the news on this coming guys - we'll post it on the front page of the site as soon as someone can confirm the update works.

Installed too.

However, be warned. I have spoken to Samsung about it and they know nothing about it. So i guess they have released the software and not told the customer service agents! They are coming back to me on Monday with answers regarding what exactly they have done. Im hoping it sorts out the contacts issue (disappearing) after using bluetooth. Tested a few moments ago and seems ok now. However, it does not seem any faster.

One strange thing though. Once installed the software updating does not work anymore!

Could that be because the software reverts to "phone not supported" instead of "no update available"?

This is my second attempt at running the update. On the updater it indicates that the update process can take a long time, anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes? It took much longer than that just to load the update files!

My first attempt eventually downloaded the update and I guess it must have started to upload the update to my phone but after 27% it just hang there for over 1 hour doing nothing. The screen on my phone was flashing red with the words "ALL DOWNLOAD" written in bold white letters.

I had to disconnect my phone because I had to use it and hoped that it was not corrupted. It seemed to work fine and showed the initial firmware.

I am trying to see if the update will work again and will keep you posted on the results. So far its been 'loading the update files' for about 15 minutes and is only at 12%

Ok heres how i did it. I had the same problem as you to start with.

Got to 27% and it hung, but it did prompt me to install the usb drivers at this stage. So i downloaded from samsung site and reinstalled. Came out of program which prompted me to it being a failed update. Then did the recovery as the install had frozen (keeping fingers on 4 and 7 and powering up with the usb cable connected). Then the screen displayed ALL DOWNLOAD again. Run the update again and it worked.

Still cannot see what has changed, but will update with Samsungs reply on Monday.

OMG i think ive killed my phone

its stuck on 27% and the screen is RED saying all download

i cant quit the program

what do i do? jus pull the cable out of the phone?

I pulled the plug and it was fine.

Incidently the date of the firmware is 19/9/08. How weird!!!!?!?? :con?

i just took battery out and put it back in and its working ok. Thank god

that was scary im not gonig to try it again

I backed up all my data beforehand and I figured that if everything went bottoms up I would be straight back to Carphone Warehouse for a replacement.

i backed up too

its a shame it didnt work and we all had the same problem

i never got the USB driver install prompt

It took me an hour to get to about 70% the second time so I just gave up.

I have pretty good broadband too so its obviously something at samsung end that's slow

Have installed latest version but it keeps telling that my phone isn't connected even though PC Studio shows it as connected.
Strange.

I have just downloaded the update with the usual 27% failure, I just pressed 4 and 7 and inserted usb cable then powered on, next thing success i now have the 07/10/2008 i8510xxhj3 upgrade on the phone. There seems to be no real upgrade...yet, the camera is still slow and lags incredibly, and I still cannot take a good photo. Another few days of this and I think i will be giving this back to carphone.

How long have you had the phone? I have had mine 2 months. I did speak to someone at samsung about a month ago and he said it was a Symbian problem and the N96 was having the same problems. However, the N96 has had updates, but then again Nokia own Symbian, so i guess they will repair their phones first. An update is likely in the Spring 😡

hi i have had the phone since monday and simple tasks like photo and battery are ridicoulous then the web browsing is fantastic i have upgraded from n95 debranded
