Wi-fi problems - turning off 'power saving'
Published by Steve Litchfield at 12:18 UTC, December 3rd 2007
Question:
Q. I'm having lots of problems with random errors and disconnections when using Wi-Fi on my smartphone. I've heard that turning off 'power saving' helps, but I can't find a setting for this!
Answer:
A. Yes, Nokia's S60 implementation of Wi-Fi power saving doesn't always play well with some routers. Turning it off is certainly a good first step in debugging Wi-Fi connection problems:
- Go into Settings | Connection | Wireless Lan
- Hit 'Options | Advanced settings' and acknowledge the warning
- Change 'Automatic configuration' to 'Disabled'
- Scroll down to the bottom of the settings list and set 'Power saving' to 'Disabled'

Hi, I have used my Hummy 9200t for the last three years, and am now about to add a Foxsat HD to make full use of my Toshiba 1080p LCD TV.
I have been in the habit of turning off the power at the wall socket for all equipment when not in use overnight, the question is can I do this with the Foxsat without any problems.
