Q. I like having my Calendar appointments show up on the homescreen of my Nokia N97, but it's hard to get a feel for my busy life when only two appointments are shown. Can I adjust the font to show more entries?
A. No, but there is an interesting open source workaround that I think you're going to like. It also works on the N97 mini and C6, of course.
Head over to sourceforge.net/projects/comingnext/ and grab the ZIP file. ComingNext is essentially a couple of homescreen widgets that work in tandem to pick out the next eight upcoming appointments from your Calendar. Place them one above the other in your homescreen layout and you've effectively got yourself a double height widget that shows four times as much information as the standard Calendar homescreen widget. Both the .wgz widget files have to be installed (in the usual way, e.g. send them to your N97 via Bluetooth) – I suggest installing to C: as they're tiny and you want them always available. Use 'Options>Edit content' on your homescreen and add the widgets in the right order ('B' second, obviously).
There are two caveats. One, both will show up (annoyingly) in your 'Open apps' listings. Secondly, widgets can't (yet) have transparent backgrounds, though you can change the colours used by fiddling inside the .wgz files – see the ComingNext web page for details.
