When everything goes horribly wrong in Nokia Software Update

Why does my P910i keep changing its IMEI code?

For starters, the IMEI reported by most (but not all) applications (starting with "14") is different from that printed on the phone itself (starting with "35"). Why can't I open OPL programs written on my old Psion?
