I'm a big SMS user. Is this what's eating up my 9210i's internal disk space?
Q. I am repeatedly seeing a message 'memory full' on my Nokia 9210i, even though I've moved all my documents to the memory card. Now I can't use my Communicator because I don't want to delete the only remaining files I can find there - my large (over a thousand) store of SMS messages and Calendar data. And when I go to 'Control Panel | Memory | Device', it says that out of 16MB available, 11MB are mysterious 'other file types'. I connected the 9210i to my PC, but there I could see only two folders on the 'C' disc: 'Documents' (almost zero) and 'System' (5MB). What's eating up all my memory?
Where's my new document been saved?
Q. A month ago, I started working on a document on my Nokia 9500 and even gave it a name 'Article start'. The trouble is that I can't see it in Documents' 'Recent documents' list and it's not in all the obvious places ('My files', root directory, etc.) Has my document slipped through a black hole into deepest space?
Why do some photo thumbnails come up for callers and not others?
Q. When people call me on my Nokia 9300, their name and photo thumbnail generally comes up properly on the screen, but when my wife or daughter call me (the two people whose faces I really want to see!), I just get the bare number shown. This is driving me mad. Why does this work sometimes and not others?
Getting rid of wierdly large fonts
Q. I've had problems with strange fonts in Contacts on my Nokia 9500 (after a little fiddling with TrueType fonts!), but deleting all my INI files (using 'Ctrl' 'Shift' 'I' on startup) didn't seem to do the trick. The strange font now crops up on command buttons as well as in search fields. The rest of my Communicator is working fine, but is there anything else I can do to get my fonts back to normal?
After resetting my 9300, Calendar is horrendously slow
Q. Help! I hard reset (formatted) my Nokia 9300, in order to solve a previous problem with broken communications, and my Calendar and Contacts data seemed to come across OK into the device. But when I browse around my Calendar, the application takes an age to display its entries, especially when I move between different months. I can't think of anything I've done wrong. How can I speed Calendar up and get it back to normal?
Why do my Java programs crash with 'exception' errors?
Q. On all Nokia's documentation, it says that my Nokia 9500 has MIDP 2.0 (a type of Java support) installed. However, when I look in the Java installer on my 9500 (called 'Applications') and go to 'Help | About', it says that I have MIDP 1.0 only. Can you help clear up the confusion? I'm trying to install certain J2ME applications, but they crash with 'exception' error messages.
Bluetooth connection to my smartphone has stopped working!
Q. Help, the Bluetooth connection to my smartphone has suddenly stopped working. I haven't changed anything in the setup of either PC or phone and both have been rebooted several times. Any ideas? I'd hate to go back to using the cable, Bluetooth is just so convenient!
Overnight battery drain with a Bluetooth smartphone
Q. I'm mystified. I go to bed at night with my smartphone next to me, showing a full charge, and in the morning it's down to almost zero. I've rebooted and made sure that there no extra, running applications that might be hammering the processor, and yet every night the story's the same. Is my smartphone faulty?
PC Suite doesn't recognise my Nokia Communicator
Q. I've been unable to connect up my Nokia 9500 for the last two months. I've powered everything down and restarted, I've tried reinstalling the latest PC Suite, I've used both cable and Bluetooth and nothing seems to work. The Windows hardware wizard pops up and asks me for the driver and, despite a broadband Internet connection and the original Nokia CD in the drive, nothing gets found. Why's this happening and what can I do to solve the problem?
Sorting out an endless reboot cycle after rogue application install
Q. I'd been trying out trial versions of some utilities on my new Nokia S60 smartphone and after installing the last one, suddenly the smartphone rebooted itself. Or rather it tried to. Now when I power it on, all I get is the work 'Nokia' in big letters and then it starts again, over and over. I realise that the problem is self-inflicted here and it serves me right for fiddling too much, but what can I do to get my smartphone back to factory defaults and start syncing my data back onto it?
Last ditch cures for battery charging/power on problems
Q. My new Nokia smartphone has turned off by itself. I thought it was the battery and I tried to charge it but the phone didn't show any sign that it was plugged in. I tried to turn it on again but it only showed a white screen and after 2 sec turned off again. Will flashing it to the latest firmware help to solve the problem?
Low battery life, no rogue applications
Q. My Nokia smartphone doesn't seem to take long to get through a full battery charge. I've read tips about checking for rogue programs in memory and I regularly use TaskSpy, but by the end of a day on the road the battery's almost always very low. Do you think it's charging properly?
Help on getting "Music player: system error" on N-Gage
Q. I’m getting "Music player: system error" when I try to play MP3s on my N-Gage.
Missing application icons after playing music on N-Gage
Q. My N-Gage is driving me crazy, there’s a bug which bites me every single day. After using the Music Player to play tunes from my 512MB MMC, I find that all my third party application icons have disappeared from the Menu screen and I have to restart the device. Is it just me?
Wrong track running lengths on N-Gage
Q. I have a Nokia N-Gage and am experimenting with using it as an MP3 player. The trouble is, tracks are shown with the wrong running lengths. Is there anything I can do to get these shown correctly? I've tried both MP3 and AAC file formats.Search Support
