Browsing the contents of another phone via Bluetooth
Q. Is it possible to browse the contents of another phone via Bluetooth? My old Samsung could do this. Once paired you would also have the option to browse the files of the phone (images, video and audio).Do I need a firewall?
Q. On my PC I have the ZoneAlarm firewall loaded all the time, to protect myself against Internet-borne nasties. Do I need to do something similar for my smartphone? How can I search through all my information?
Q. I've got quite a bit of information tucked away in my PIM apps, plus other office documents and general files on my Nokia smartphone. But how can I perform a global search for a piece of text? On my old Palm OS handheld, this was possible, is there not an equivalent in Symbian OS?Why do email messages appear downloaded and then disappear?
Q. Messaging shows up my POP3 Inbox emails properly at first but then the next day I find most of them have been lost. Is email syncing broken?
Why can't I open OPL programs written on my old Psion?
Q. Having upgraded from a Psion 5mx, I've been experimenting with my own OPL programs on my Nokia 9500 and have been trying to get these to read in files produced on my Psion. However, OPL on the the 9500 refuses to read these, giving a 'not supported' error. Surely text is text? What's going wrong?
Can I upgrade my data from Psion to Nokia 9500/9300?
Q. I'm lusting after a new Nokia 9500 but seem to be stuck back in the Psion age. My contacts are spread across a dozen Psion Series 3mx Data files ('Business', 'Travel', etc.) and I also have an Agenda going back to 1997. Will be able to bring this data into 2006?
How can I browse around the ROM in my Nokia 9500?
Q. How can I browse around the ROM in my Nokia 9500? It's always interesting...
How do I take my stuff from my old Nokia 9210i to my new 9500?
Q. I’m getting my Nokia 9500 shortly and am a bit worried about how to move everything across from my old Nokia 9210i. Can you spell it out for me, please?
How can I restore my 9500 backup to my new 9300?
Q. I recently had a chance to buy a Nokia 9300 for a nice price from a friend. I already had a Nokia 9500, which I'd backed up regularly. How can I restore my backup from the 9500 to the 9300? I tried but there seems to be no option to do this, as PC Suite doesn't let me select the 9500 backup file when I have 9300 connected.
I'm a big SMS user. Is this what's eating up my 9210i's internal disk space?
Q. I am repeatedly seeing a message 'memory full' on my Nokia 9210i, even though I've moved all my documents to the memory card. Now I can't use my Communicator because I don't want to delete the only remaining files I can find there - my large (over a thousand) store of SMS messages and Calendar data. And when I go to 'Control Panel | Memory | Device', it says that out of 16MB available, 11MB are mysterious 'other file types'. I connected the 9210i to my PC, but there I could see only two folders on the 'C' disc: 'Documents' (almost zero) and 'System' (5MB). What's eating up all my memory?
How can I get round 'insufficient memory' on my 9210i?
Q. I’m forever having problems with ‘Insufficient memory’ on my old Nokia 9210i Communicator. Short of selling it and buying something else, isn’t there anything that can be done to help the situation?
Where's my new document been saved?
Q. A month ago, I started working on a document on my Nokia 9500 and even gave it a name 'Article start'. The trouble is that I can't see it in Documents' 'Recent documents' list and it's not in all the obvious places ('My files', root directory, etc.) Has my document slipped through a black hole into deepest space?
Why do my Java programs crash with 'exception' errors?
Q. On all Nokia's documentation, it says that my Nokia 9500 has MIDP 2.0 (a type of Java support) installed. However, when I look in the Java installer on my 9500 (called 'Applications') and go to 'Help | About', it says that I have MIDP 1.0 only. Can you help clear up the confusion? I'm trying to install certain J2ME applications, but they crash with 'exception' error messages.
Why does Calendar keep changing my appointment times when I fly abroad?
Q. I recently went to China for work. Just before I left the UK, I put in all flight details from Shanghai to LA. The Shanghai to LA flight was leaving on the Monday at 12:30 PM. When I arrived in Shanghai I changed my clock over to Shanghai time so I could set my alarms for the week. At this point the phone told me that all my Calendar enteries where being updated by 8 hours. So when I went into my Calendar for that Monday, my flight was now leaving at 8:30 PM. Why does the 9500 do this? No matter where I go on Earth the flight was still leaving at 12:30 PM local time. What can I do to stop this from happening in the future?
Will keeping Bluetooth on be a security problem?
Q. As Nokia does not provide a vibrate mode for the 9500, I decided to use a Bluetooth headset with a built-in vibrator. As a result, I have to keep Bluetooth always on, will this be a problem for the Communicator? Is there a possibility of virus attack?
