Q. Help! I hard reset (formatted) my Nokia 9300, in order to solve a previous problem with broken communications, and my Calendar and Contacts data seemed to come across OK into the device. But when I browse around my Calendar, the application takes an age to display its entries, especially when I move between different months. I can't think of anything I've done wrong. How can I speed Calendar up and get it back to normal?
Q. On all Nokia's documentation, it says that my Nokia 9500 has MIDP 2.0 (a type of Java support) installed. However, when I look in the Java installer on my 9500 (called 'Applications') and go to 'Help | About', it says that I have MIDP 1.0 only. Can you help clear up the confusion? I'm trying to install certain J2ME applications, but they crash with 'exception' error messages.
Q. I recently went to China for work. Just before I left the UK, I put in all flight details from Shanghai to LA. The Shanghai to LA flight was leaving on the Monday at 12:30 PM. When I arrived in Shanghai I changed my clock over to Shanghai time so I could set my alarms for the week. At this point the phone told me that all my Calendar enteries where being updated by 8 hours. So when I went into my Calendar for that Monday, my flight was now leaving at 8:30 PM. Why does the 9500 do this? No matter where I go on Earth the flight was still leaving at 12:30 PM local time. What can I do to stop this from happening in the future?
Q. I’ve been using my new 9300 quite a bit on the World Wide Web. I can’t see a GPRS counter application though. How can I find out how many kilobytes of data I’ve used?
Q. When connecting up with Web on my Nokia 9500, I get given the choice of all my different access points (dial-up, GPRS, Easy WLAN, etc.), but when connecting up using Messaging to get my email, it only ever uses the one I set up in 'Tools | Account settings | General | Internet access'. Why can't Messaging offer the same flexibility as Web?
Q. I'm trying to connect my Nokia 9500's Wi-Fi to my router at home, which is using 64-bit WEP encryption. My 9500 however only allows for 40, 104 and 232 bits. What should I do?
Q. Help, the Bluetooth connection to my smartphone has suddenly stopped working. I haven't changed anything in the setup of either PC or phone and both have been rebooted several times. Any ideas? I'd hate to go back to using the cable, Bluetooth is just so convenient!
Q. I'm mystified. I go to bed at night with my smartphone next to me, showing a full charge, and in the morning it's down to almost zero. I've rebooted and made sure that there no extra, running applications that might be hammering the processor, and yet every night the story's the same. Is my smartphone faulty?
Q. I've been unable to connect up my Nokia 9500 for the last two months. I've powered everything down and restarted, I've tried reinstalling the latest PC Suite, I've used both cable and Bluetooth and nothing seems to work. The Windows hardware wizard pops up and asks me for the driver and, despite a broadband Internet connection and the original Nokia CD in the drive, nothing gets found. Why's this happening and what can I do to solve the problem?
Q. As Nokia does not provide a vibrate mode for the 9500, I decided to use a Bluetooth headset with a built-in vibrator. As a result, I have to keep Bluetooth always on, will this be a problem for the Communicator? Is there a possibility of virus attack?
Q. The stereo headset supplied with my Nokia smartphone isn't bad for listening to music on the go, but when I'm in a quiet environment (like my boat or caravan) I'd like to use my own set of professional headphones. Can the two be plugged together?
Q. My new Nokia smartphone has turned off by itself. I thought it was the battery and I tried to charge it but the phone didn't show any sign that it was plugged in. I tried to turn it on again but it only showed a white screen and after 2 sec turned off again. Will flashing it to the latest firmware help to solve the problem?
Q. My Nokia smartphone doesn't seem to take long to get through a full battery charge. I've read tips about checking for rogue programs in memory and I regularly use TaskSpy, but by the end of a day on the road the battery's almost always very low. Do you think it's charging properly?
Q. I've fitted my partner out with a cheap Series 60 smartphone (a Nokia 6670) and need to get our 'master' contacts set over from my Nokia 9500 to her device. I've beamed the most used dozen or so entries, but I can't face beaming five hundred others! How can this be automated?
