Palette Extender
A freeware application to enable "hidden" colour palettes on your Nokia 7650

A quick introduction

In some firmware revisions, Nokia introduced some more palettes in its smartphone Nokia 7650, based on Symbian operating system and Series60 user interface. But these stay "hidden", unlocked only by customised releases for some phone operators.

After going into deep-checking differences between my old v03.12 firmware and a newer VodafoneLive! v04.37 handset (which was the first one where I saw the "Red" colour palette) I discovered a little new line of text inside one of the various configuration files inside the phone.

After trials and errors, and with the BIG help of some GREAT ;-) programmers, we managed to create a little utility to automate enabling and disabling of these palettes.

It does not work on all handsets, it mostly works on firmware releases with major revision 4.xx, but in some phones with "operator modified" v03.xx it works too. And it seems not to work in some other v04.39 handsets. Unfortunately, if the program detects you that «your phone doesn't support this mode», it will tell you so, and there's nothing you can do about it :-(

The program

How to use it

It's quite simple ;-)

The main window appears like this:

Press the left softkey and you will access a menu that allows you to enable or disable each single colour palette.

Please note that you can't have all palettes disabled at once (the phone does not support such configuration). If you disable all, pExtender will re-enable all of them ;-)

Each modification takes place immediately. You can then exit PaletteExtender and go to your phone's Settings menu and select your favourite palette:
