Phoniƒied Mail[E] is a mobile phone application that communicates with your company's Microsoft Exchange email server, so that you or your employees can access corporate email from their cell phones. Mail[E] is targeted at on-the-go professionals who do not have a mobile email device, but still want to read and respond to their email while on the road. The application runs on most new phones being sold today, and because it works directly with the existing corporate Web mail portal, users can download and use the application without the need for the IT staff to deploy a gateway server. In addition, the solution is secure (using https directly from the phone to the corporate server) so there is no concern about sensitive email going through an external hosted server. While some phones have email clients built in, the majority of them do not work with most companies’ Microsoft Exchange servers. New high-end devices support ActiveSync™ to interface with Exchange; however, these require the latest version of the Microsoft Exchange server, which many companies have not yet deployed. Mail[E] is available today and works with the current email infrastructure. |

Mail[E] is a solution you can download and run yourself, without needing your IT department to install a new server or requisition a special mobile email device. It runs on many of today's standard phones, for most wireless carriers' networks, and will usually work with your existing Exchange mail server. Best of all, it is very affordable, with a single low purchase price and no ongoing email subscription fees, other than the cost of your wireless carrier's data plan.
Mail[E] is a client for the Microsoft Exchange mail server. If you are using Outlook to get your mail, then your server is probably Exchange. Also, Mail[E] requires Outlook Web Access, which is the web interface to Exchange. If your company supports this, you will have a Web site that allows you to read your email from any PC on the internet. Some companies have a gateway screen, which logs you onto the corporate network before you can get to Outlook Web Access. If you need to enter two different usernames and passwords, or need to enter a code from a password card, then your company uses a gateway. Unfortunately, Mail[E] does not yet work for servers with a gateway. Check with your IT team if you are not sure if you have Exchange with Outlook Web Access.
You will also need a wireless data plan. These are available from most wireless carriers, check with your carrier for details. Because email traffic can use a lot of bandwidth, we recommend an unlimited data plan, which many carriers support. If your carrier does not support unlimited data, then we suggest the highest volume plan available.
Finally, you will need a recent model phone. You can check on our supported phones page to see if your phone is supported. Because there are variations between phones, wireless plans, and Exchange servers, we strongly suggest you try the application first. If it works, you can then purchase a license, and upgrade your trial application.
Today, Mail[E] does not run on most Verizon phones. If you have a Treo or Windows Mobile Smartphone, you can download a separate Java engine that will allow you to run Mail[E].
Certain T-Mobile data plans do not allow access to external applications (like Mail[E]) or servers (like your corporate email server). To check if Mail[E] works for your plan, you can try to download the trial application, and see if you can download the application and access your server.
With Mail[E], even the smallest business can give their employees access to the corporate email account from their phone. Because there is no special wireless server required, the incremental total cost per user of the Mail[E] solution is very affordable.
If you have already deployed an enterprise push email solution, Mail[E] can augment your existing solution, by reaching additional employees. Mail[E] runs on a wide range of phones, so employees can run this on their existing mobile phone. And, with no recurring service charge, Mail[E] can be effective for employees for whom a push email solution is not cost justified.
Mail[E] is an "IT-friendly" solution for giving your employees access to Exchange when on the road. Mail[E] leverages the existing infrastructure, so there is no need to purchase, install, nor maintain a special wireless server. There is also no need to worry about the security of a hosted external server, as the data connection is direct from the employees phone to your Outlook Web Access server, using https secure connections. Phoniƒied has paid particular attention to making installation and configuration as simple as possible, and users can set this up for themselves, without needing a provisioning expert from IT to assist them. If your company's employees are using Mail[E] on their own, you can be confident that your corporate email is not being funneled through some else's server, outside of your control. If you are looking for a solution to recommend or supply, but don't have time or resources to add another box, Mail[E] may be the answer for you.
