Opera have announced the availability of a new version of their popular Opera browser for Series 60 2.0 (and above) phones. Opera 8 for Symbian S60 is based on the same engine as that powering the recently announced Opera 8 for Windows, as such there are improvement to JavaScript and DOM support. The Series 60 version has a major upgrade to the small screen rendering (SSR) technology.
CameraFX Pro (from WildPalm) is now available for Series 60 v2 phones. Featuring a multitude of picture effects from zoom, colour correction, deformations and frames, it looks like a great companion for the heavy duty camera user.
iSilo, the cross platform document reader, has had its Series 60 version updated. Compressed text, with hyperlinks and images, all available from your phone. Well worth looking at if you're still deciding on a doc reader for your phone.
A new version of the Sendo X firmware update has been released, fixing GPRS problems, among others. Each language distribution is unlocked to all handsets. See SendoSmartphones.com for details.

Imre Kelényi and Balázs Molnár have released Symella, a download P2P client for Series 60 that talks to the popular Gnutella system. It follows the 0.6 build of Gnutella, utilising swarming and multiple concurrnet downloads to improve the experience. Those of you not on an unlimited data plan, take care!
These seem to be popular - probably because every developer decides he needs his own certain view on the filing system. Symbian Commander from Unteh takes the starting point of the classic Norton Commander / XTree Gold split screen view and turns out a suprisingly nice looking manager.
When it's using Skype! While it's not the standalone Skype client a lot of people are hoping turns up for the Wi-Fi enabled N91, Useful Skype Phone allows you to use a small number of Series 60 handsets (the 6630, 6680 and 6681) as a Skype handset. The secret sauce is in a bluetooth based server on your PC, so you'll still need to be close to your desktop, but it could be a lot more comfortable than some dodgy music speakers and flakey microphone.
Thanks to our spies at SendoSmartphones.com, it's interesting to note that the Sendo web site now shows the X2 in high resolution imagery. Sendo have also removed all the old Sendo X themes from their site, paving the way (probably) for a new, X2-compatible firmware update for Sendo X owners.
Series 60 smartphone users might like to note that Ewan's Vexed is no longer the only game for the platform that's written in OPL. Also running on the 'alpha' OPL runtime is my new "Hangman", designed for keeping kids and adults diverted on long journeys. More over here.
Long time Symbian supporter, Russ Beattie, has rwecently picked up a Nokia 6680. Over on his blog he's posted a list of the built in and third party applications he's been using on the 6680. An interesting read and a good starting point for new users.
Nokia has announced that it using open source software in developing a new mobile browser for Series 60. Nokia has been cooperating with Apple to use it's WebCore and JavaScriptCore for the Series 60 platform (Apple uses these in its popular Safari Internet browser, and the components are based on KDE's KHTML and KJS). The new browser will be available to Series 60 liscensees in the first half of 2006 and should make it's way on to phones sometime after that.
