Ok not so much mayhem. But in the music vid for MyBalloon's new release "Trust No One" (due out on Feb 3rd in Germany), we can clearly see a chubby business man type talking into a 9210 and holding it the right way round. A non-perfect quality video can be downloaded from the band's website.
Not long ago, it was discovered that you can actually bypass the security on the Orange/Microsoft SPiV so that installing third party applications becomes a reality. If you bought one of these units with the intention of installing extra software, your dreams have come true - only keep looking over your shoulder because Microsoft and Orange are looking for you.......
Its not often that you can honestly say that Microsoft and Linux have a common foe, but in this case they do in onse sense. Both Linux and Microsoft are being touted as alternatives to Symbian. This Yahoo article talks about Microsft and its entry to the market, while this news.com article discusses Linux.
How can a new device have a history? Well, it has a development history. The P800 development dates back to 1999 (first seen publcially Cebit 2000). You can read more about the philosophy behind the design in WDN's excellent article.
It's a long while since I posted a 'Musing', but this story on The Register caught my eye and makes for very interesting reading in that we finally get to hear what it is Sendo has to say about what Microsoft did to screw it sideways, chew it up and leave Sendo for dead....
Have a look at this very interesting read at The Register. It appears that all the courting and PR momentum built up with the Mobius Conference is about to be damaged. Developers are being asked to pay up to $600 per application to get their Orange SPV Stinger apps Microsoft Certified - and without that certificate the apps won't run on the SPV. Symbian's Developer Support doesn't seem at all bad this morning...
To put it simply, nobody is still able to comment with 100% accuracy why Sendo decided to dump the MS-Stinger powered Z-100 as it was about to be launched, but The Register (as usual) has looked at history and come up with some conclusions that are as close as we're going to get in the near future. And to keep things balanced, why not have a look at the Microsoft supporters point of view over at Pocket PC Thoughts. Silicon Investor also have their own take on this as well, covering both the Sendo article and the longer term implications to Microsoft.
In a recent press release Nokia said it was looking to ship 50-100 million colour devices next year and that Series 60 devices would represent 10 million of these. This represents massive sales of Symbian OS, and would outstrip with ease the entire PDA market (both Palm and MS combined).
The new server is now up and running. If you are reading this you are already at the new server @ www.allaboutsymbian.com. Read the full story for more details.
Following the release of the new M$ rival to the 7650, I happened across an interesting article at The Register. Much talk has been made about the new M$ smartphones. El Reg aren't impressed, nor are they impressed by the rave reviews, finally a level headed opinion. The quote in the title is from Bill Gates himself as mentioned in the article (guess he can't bear to say Symbian).
Motorola have been a member and liscensee of Symbian for a relatively long time, but we have yet to see a Symbian device from then. Recently a leak spilled their roadmap for future phones on to the web in spectacular fashion, but what about something closer to the present day. All About Symbian has been investigating - this is what we have found. Update: Changes to reflect news of Siemens U10 and make it clear this is speculative.
According to this article on EWeek Symbian are concentrating on the OS rather than the UI. Aside from this having been known before (the Series 60 is a Nokia UI and the UIQ has become a SE thing) it does make the decision clearer. The article also mention 4 new UI's will be arriving soon mainly in the Asian market. Read the full story for analysis.
I would like to apologise for the lack of service (from me) over the last week or so. Thanks to the excellent job of the other admins the site has been updated.
He's been down the pub, he's getting ready for going away for the weekend, it's the middle of the night, and the booze is wearing off..... Yep SwitchBlade is on a ramble again, be afraid, be very afraid.
