The 27 people in the world with Nokia 7700's will be delighted to hear that Virgin Radio has joined Kiss FM Finland in providing Visual Radio services to the Series 90 prototype (reports Silicon.com). Virgin reckon that the service will deepen its relations with its listeners with items like "Most Wanted" songs, competitions and purchase concert tickets from the handset. The question is what device the public will listen on? The 7700 is probably never going to see the commercial light of day - so is this yet another "confirmation rumour" that the 7710 is almost ready? Let's hope so.
Here's a few more shots of what is being tentatively labelled the Nokia 7710. We're making an educated guess that this is the "evolution" of the 7700 Media Phone that Nokia were showing off earlier this year. It's clearly running the Series 90 interface, but we also hear that there's no on board microphone or speaker - it's headsets only for making phone calls. No sign of a keyboard either. What do you think?
Redshift have released an updated pack for Legacy, their RPG adventure for the Nokia Communicator and UIQ platforms. Entitled "The Legend" needs version 1.05 of Legacy to be installed. We've reviewed Legacy previously if you want to know more.
The Nokia 7700 - a pioneer for its time, the first of its kind, the live child of a N-Gage and a P900 as some call it will not see the light of day. It was to be powered by Symbian OS and Series 90 UI and should've paved the road for a new class of "Mediacentric" Nokia devices. With its landscape oriented 640x320 touch-sensitive screen and EDGE support it should have made high quality streaming video and the concept of Visual Radio a reality, instead it will be a pilot/demo tool to network operators and media/content providers. The end of the 7700 is not the end for Series 90. Nokia are planning to launch a Series 90 based device sometime in 2005. Full story source - InfoSync World
