Nokia's PC Suite has been updated to version 6.6.18 (from 6.6.16). New features include PC text messaging for the Nokia 3230, improved Internet connections and better connectivity stability. For those having problems with syncing this is a recommended upgrade.
DataViz are showcasing RoadSync and Documents To Go for the Nokia 9300 and 9500. RoadSync is a Mobile ActiveSync client which enables remote access to Exchange 2003 enabling the accessing of Outlook e-mail, attachments, calendar and contacts on the road. RoadSync for Series 80 is available immediately. Documents To Go, expected to be available by the end of October, allows for the editing of Microsoft Word and Excel documents. With DataViz's InTact Technology complete original document integrity is maintained.
Now this looks fun. Tapping into the rapidly rising support for computer Poker, and the always popular puzzle genre comes PokerPuzzle from L3 Solutions. You've got a field of playing cards you can slide around, and the aim is to get the central line of 5 cards to be a hand that beats the dealer.
Arjen has released vesion 1.32 of iDesk for the Nokia 9300 and 9500. iDesk is a small but extremely powerful application that allows you to organize all your files, folders and URLS in an easy folder structure for quick access. iDesk also contains a built-in task manager, task switcher, password manager and note taker, making it the ideal all round tool to get the most out of your Communicator. iDesk is written in OPL. Arjen has also released several OPX's which will be of interest to OPL developers.
Taskspy, previously available as freeware for UIQ and Series 60 devices, is now available for Series 80 and 90 smartphones as well. Allowing you to see exactly what is going on process and application wise in your smartphone is a much more elegant solution than a battery-out reset, and AAs would definitly recommend this is lurking somewhere on your phone in case of emergency.
Symbianware's CallRecorder looks to be useful for those who need a pernament record of a phone call, as it allows you record phone calls either automatically (with certain rules and filters you create) or manually. Just remember to let the person at the other end know you've got them 'on tape.'
RMR Software have updated RMRData to v1.1. The new update for the secure data storage applicaiton includes an option to duplicate an entry, alphabetical sort option, better choice of colours, and more icons to help categorise your entries at a glance.
Arjen Broeze has updated the OPL powered iDesk for Series 80. It creates a desktop of shortcuts to files, folders, applciations and URL's in a simple folder structure. There is also customisable hotkey support for most of the internal functions, a task manager, and password storage area.
No matter if it's a Mac, Windows or Linux box, you can get a VNC Server (Virtual Networked Computer) for your desktop. All you need now is a client to log on from another computer to drive your desktop. Now, with MochaVNC for the 9500, your Communicator acan show you the screen, be the keyboard, and acat as the mouse no matter where you are in the world. Just get an internet connection and it's like sitting at your own desk.
This port is true to the original PC version and offers full sound support, multiplayer over bluetooth, the use of additional WADs, and more. You can read more about it and download the game engine right here. Update, also available for Series 60 platforms in the same place.
Bitween come up with one of those applications that is great for about 5% of people, and everyone else goes 'why?' It's a bluetooth keyboard driver for the Nokia 9500 or 9300, so you can use an external bluetooth powered keybaord in place of the (admittedly smaller) built in keys. And rtather like London buses these things tend to come in twos with Yellow Computing also announcing a similar product.
Epocware have updated Handy Safe (a password protected repository for all your valuable bits of information) for the Series 80 Communicators. As well as secure storage on your device, it now offers a PC Companion so you can sync and access the same data on your desktop computer.
