A closer look at the camera
Here you can see the two LEDs that make up the flash.

-
UniPhone VoIP
The P1 will ship (operators permitting) with the UniPhone VoIP software. This allows you to make calls over WiFi.
-
UniPhone Settings
The UniPhone VoIP software takes standard SIP settings. However thanks to some backend server techniques it also capable of handing over to a CSD call when you leave a WiFi hotspot. Exactly how and whether this works will depend on your provider.
-
DivX Player
A DivX player will ship with the device. This includes a full screen function.
-
P1 Home Screen
The home screen will be familiar to other UIQ 3 users.
-
P1 vs M600i Screen
Although its not immediately apparent in this picture the screen of the P1 seems (subjectively) to have improved over the M600. It feels brighter and a little crisper.
-
M600 and P1 side by side
Here we can see the M600 (right) and P1 (left) on their sides. The P1 looks thicker here (because of the camera angle) although in reality there is little difference between them. In fact because of its rounded sides the P1 feels a little smaller than the M600 and fits more comfortable into the hand.
-
M600 vs P1 from the end
The P1 retains the same connector as the M600. The USB vable and hedset both plug into this propietary Sony Ericsson connector.
-
P1 vs M600 from the back
One of the most noticeable differences between the M600 and P1 is the addition of the 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera.
-
P1 vs M600
The P1 and M600 are of a very similar size. The P1 is, in effect, a P990 with a few upgrades, sitting inside an M600 form factor.
-
Extended Application Shortcuts
On the Idle / Home screen of the P1 the number of application shortcuts that can be accessed has been increased. By default only five are shown, but a small up arrow indication allows you to reveal another 10 application shortcuts.
-
P1 Keyboard
The keyboard has been improved over the M600i. The tactile feedback is more precise - it feels less hard than the M600i's keyboard, but retains the feedback.
-
Camera Mode
The P1's camera pplication is the same as that found on the P990. It draws on Sony's Cybershot look and feel with quick access via the on screen softkeys and jog dial to the most commonly used features. The software is also fairly responsive with little shutter lag and only about a second or two for processing.
-
Opera Browser
The Opera Browser is the default Web Browser on the P1. It does a good job with most pages. Thanks to the P1's additional RAM memory errors should no longer occur (as on the P990).

3.2 Megapixel Camera
The 3.2 megapixel camera is found on the back of the device. It features an autofocus and two bright LEDs for a flash. The result from the camera looked to be very good.
-
Front facing camera
On the left hand side, at the top of the device, is a secondary camera (VGA) for use in video telephony.
-
Jog Dial and Lanyard connector
The Jog dial and back key combination for navigating around the P1's UI are the same as on other UIQ 3 devices. The silver module at the top of the photo is a loop for connecting a lanyard. However it also serves to protect the jog dial from accidental presses.
-
P1 Keys
The prototypes of the P1 has less concave keys than the M600. However Sony Ericsson inicated that this is likely to change (i.e. the keys will become more concave) in the final production models.
