Gallery: Nokia 808 PureView`
Published by Rafe Blandford at
In this gallery we look at the Nokia 808 PureView, which was announced last week at Mobile World Congress. With its 41 megapixel sensor, precision Carl Zeiss optics, and advanced software algorithms it represents a new benchmark in mobile phone imaging. It runs Nokia Belle (Feature Pack 1) on Symbian OS.
You can read our frequently asked questions about the 808 here and our discussion of the 808's pixel size here.

Nokia sensor size comparison
This image show the Nokia 808 PureView sensor, compared to typical 8mpx and 5mpx sensors. What's most remarkable is just how much bigger the physical size of the sensor is.

Nokia 808 PureView camera module
This image shows the 808's camera module. This along with the dedicated imaging processor is where the magic really happens. Physically this is the largest mobile phone camera module I've ever seen. This factor is the reason for the hump on the back on the 808.

Revolution
Based on what I saw at MWC there's no doubt in my mind that PureView is a revolution in mobile imaging. It's a generational leap, which will change the way we think about what is possible with camera phones.

Nokia 808 PureView
The 808 won the GSMA Best Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet at MWC 2012. This reflected the general feeling that the 808 was the stand out device of MWC 2012. Arguably its biggest competition came from other Nokia devices (Nokia Lumia 610 and Asha 302), though the Samsung Note 10.1 was also in contention.
