Summary:
The Nokia 5730 is a consumer and music focused Symbian phone with a side sliding QWERTY keyboard. It also features a Carl Zeiss lens, 3.2 megapixel camera. It is the sister devices of the Nokia E75.

5730 in slide out mode
The 5730's slide is reassuringly solid. It uses exactly the same mechanism as the E75 (indeed I suspect its only the external materials that differ).
-
-
5730 from the back
Removing the battery cover is a slightly awkward process. Worse its rather flexible, meaning there's a significant portion of wasted space and the whole thing flexes.
-
5730 with USB port and microD card slot
The USB port can be used for charging and PC connectivity. The phone comes with a microUSB charger.

5730 from the side
Understandably the 5730 is quite a thick device (compared to an E52), but ti doesn't really feel that big. A question of consumer preference I feel!
Note also the prominence of the D-pad. It is raised significantly above the main part of the keypad.
-
Nokia 5730 from the back
The 5730's back piece has the exact same screw positioning as on the E75 (underlining the fact that the two devices are 'twin' sisters).
-
Carl Zeiss Optics
The 5730 has a Carl Zeiss lens (a key advantage over the E75). It produces decent results (arguably as good as some of the 5 megapixel cameras on other phones).
-
Keyboard
Although the keyboard keys are flat, they do have reasonable tactile feedback. Although it is still limited in size, the 5730's is a lot bigger than the keyboard on non-sliding models (E71, E63, E55). It should therefore be more comfortable for those with bigger hands or those who find thumb boards fiddly.
-
Central keyboard spine
The keyboard slide is held together by the central 'spine'. This is metal of the E75, but plastic on the 5730.
-
Music control keys
There's no definition to these keys (bumps), which means it is difficult to tell them apart when you;re not looking at the device (e.g. when it is your pocket).
-
-
Shiny keys
The 5730 material has a shiny plastic finish, which does attract finger prints.
-
N-Gage keys
On the top of the device there is a long rocker switch. This gives two shortcut keys which are used in N-Gage games. Having separate keys makes game play considerably more comfortable.
-
3.5 mm audio jack
Nokia standard 3.5 mm AV jack for music and TV-Out (TV-out cable not included).
-
-
Phone start up
The set up application automatically starts when you first use the phone. It helps you transfer settings from your old phone and customise the 5730 (ringtones, Bluetooth name etc.).
-
-
Music software bundle
Music software includes Music player, Radio, Music store, Podcasting, Music search and Recorder.
-
Music playback
With a dedicated DSP the 5730 offers good quality music playback, though this is true of most recent Symbian phones.
-
Music controls
The Music controls are back lit. At first glance the symbols are difficult to tell apart, though it is, perhaps, not a significant concerns, as they are arranged in the traditional manner.
-
-
Landscape mode
Arguably the phone is optimised for use in landscape mode (e.g. positoning of the S60 / Home key). Given the presence of the QWERTY keyboard this makes sense. However when used in portrait mode things can feel a little cramped.
-
Lettering design
Complete with funky lettering design. It's eye catching, but is it practical?
-
Homescreen
The consumer friendly homescreen has a contact bar (up to 20 contacts), various plug-ins (e.g. for the Music player application) and application shortcuts along the bottom.
-
Materials
The major difference between the two devices are in the materials used in the construction of the body of the phone.
-
E75 versis Nokia 5730
At launch prices the 5730 is 95 Euro cheaper than the E75. Real world prices are a little different, although once things settle down there should be a significant price gap between these two devices.
-
E75 versus Nokia 5730
The 5730's keyboard has a slightly more textured (matt) finish the E75. This is similar to the difference between the E71 and E63. Consequently it might be possible to get slightly better input speed on the 5730.
