The Nokia E55 gets v33

The Half-qwertyy-equipped Nokia E55 just got itself a firmware update, available widely for all unbranded handsets, taking the E55 from v31.012 firmware to v33.002. It's a 3.8MB update Over The Air and there's the usual full retention of your data and apps. No changelog has surfaced yet, so comments welcome if you spot something new (or better!)

The v31.012 firmware messed up a couple of things on my E52, so I hope v33.002 fixes them and is released to the E52 soon too!

*The music player sometimes (pretty much with every other song) just play the first second of a song and then skip to the next one.
*The large b&w clock screensaver doesn't show anymore when I press a key when the keypad is locked.

My Russian E52 was updated yesterday to 33 too. OTA.

What's interesting, I got an email and text message from Nokia telling me update is available.

one thing the update contains is OVI Maps 3.03. It seems to be working more stable than the beta 3.04 I had installed before.

As of this morning my UK unbranded E55 is still stuck on 22.009. Maps 3.03 in firmware isn't alot of help as I need 3.04 to get the compass working properly!

the compass is working perfecly on my E55 with latest firmware. I too had problems in older OVI Maps releases, I guess even with OVI maps 3.03. But probably the downloadable beta 3.03 was not the same like maps 3.03 embedded in new 33.002 firmware. Perhaps other bugs in the firmware have been fixed so compass does work now even with 3.03. After all it does work on my mobile now. So just give it a try but do not forgetto uninstall 3.04 from your mobile else you might start the wrong version.

Updated my Nokia E52 to firmware 033.002 today.

Before update: 21MB. Immediately following update: 33MB. Very exciting. Would love to know what changed.

Wondering if we get it for E72 as well.

nice to see this getting updates.....it's £199 delivered now at play.com....I'm trying to decide if I should put my N95 in the cupboard and get this! The price seems right anyway for a full featured smartphone. I'd maybe prefer the E52 keypad, but I can't find one in black anywhere in the UK.
Decisions decisions!

Well they skipped 31 and went straight for 33 with the UK phones. Indeed the compass now works on my E55 in 3.03 and the bluetooth problems seem to be fixed. However even with a reset I had problems with tracks skipping in the music player - I read about this problem before updating but hoped it wouldn't bite me. Looks like they have a problem with M4A files - or at least my M4A files. I had to convert all the M4A files to old-fashioned MP3 to make it usable again which took a very long time :-(

A warning for everyone who has loaded the unsigned version of Nokia Podcasting onto the E55. This firmware update breaks that compatibility. The Podcasting app will load and display your feeds, but once you choose a connection it will freeze. I've confirmed this same behavior with an E52 owner who updated as well.
