I got my N97 through 3 and therefore had to debrand it so I could get the v12 firmware before the end of the year . I have sadly got the lens scratch issue, GPS fix issue and also my keypad lock button fell off...!
I've got a local Nokia repair centre who have ordered the parts in but I'm just wondering whether they will charge me if I decide to upgrade the the v20 firmware?
The other day I changed my product code back to the standard 3 one because I was expecting the parts to arrive in the repair shop and then I could take it in without a great worry. However, as Royal Mail have yet to deliver the parts, I'm sat waiting around for them while everyone else gets to play with v20.
So: if I update to v20 and then change my product code back to normal, do you think Nokia will detect and then charge me for the repair or will I be able to get it done under warranty?
I know debranding voids your warranty but I'm just wondering whether they can tell whether I've changed the prod key back or not...
In short, yes they know which firmwares you downloaded and which firmwares should be available for your branded device so, unless the staff at the service centre are inept, they will know if you've changed the product code or not.
