ah, thankyou!
something to look forward to, hah, but have they just skipped v12 for UK unbranded completely?

Cool! Think i'll give it till Monday morning, just to make sure there's nothing wrong with it, mine's running great on V12 now, all i want are some fancy theme effects and more kinetic scrolling

Something else to look forward too besides Shakira's album!

Why nokia can't just announce, officially, when it will be is beyond me...

Apple announced the iPhone firmware update months in advance!

Whay hay, looks like I'm in the first batch - BUT ....

Anyone know if this installed via PC only, or will it be possible to do it OTA?

Just in case I haven't sorted out my Nokia Software Updater by then....

Logged onto the Phone Software Updater - in menu / applications - and now downloading the new release of Ovi Contacts v1.2

I'm really glad i debranded 😃

I'm beginning to hyperventilate a little 😃

I must get out more

oh that's nice that is !!! .... i'm sure in your case Ian that it's completely over the head, secured with a very very tight rubber band at the neck

I'll believe that when it actually happens.

I only got the V12 update a few days ago.

I have no hope for Nokia delivering the firmware on time.

Plus, it doesn't really matter to me for another 2 weeks or so, i'm sending it back to Nokia to try AGAIN at fixing my GPS and camera lens.

AAHHH! URGGHHH!... that's what my last girlfriend said.. 😊

Like you munkiii, I'll believe it when it happens... bearing in mind the v12.0.026 launch... withdrawal... relaunch.

I'm another believe it when I see/download it. Of course I'll be checking here first to see who has it, then they will be subjected to abuse. 😊

I know what i won't be doing this time i update, i won't be downloading it as soon as it's available. I'll wait and see what people say about how the update went.

My V12 update problems meant i had to hard reset my phone again just to get my access points and WLAN back (like many others).

I know the UK is in Europe geographically  but does the below actually mean UK?

I always thought Europe and UK were distinguished separately by Nokia?

Stage 2
Date: Sun: (11 Oct.)
Region: EUROPE
Type: Un-branded Phones

Did anyone else get a text from Nokia saying there was new software available for their N97??

I just punched in my code on the Nokia site and it still says v12. Yet to try my phone directly as I'm backing up my music in readiness.

I'll assume that the release on 11th labelled "Europe" doesn't include the UK... When it does come out here though, I'm gonna hard reset my phone first before installing it.

I'd like to think that V12 is delayed/improperly tested for unlocked UK handsets as their attentions were focused on V20!

I mean it may deliver the SIP/VOIP/Skype integration that the N97 was advertised as having pre launch, or make the facebook app more than 80% reliable, or bring the theme transitions somewhere near as quick as in commercials.

In short I'd like the phone I felt the I was promised and not the beta version I feel I got!
Should have plumbed for Android and HTC hero

/rant

sorry about that, I am v excited for V20 and very excited to finally be proud of my phone

I posted the dates on Nokia Discussion and it's been pulled

Kind regards. "

Why be so "confidential" FFS! I gave them 500 for this phone!?!?!

There's a post about the v20 features on the AAS homepage.

Please note: apparently there's no improvement to transitions and no skype.

It's disappointing there is no Skype, I'm sure I saw somewhere ( Nokia N97 Forum ) that this would include it. technically speaking, we can always use fring, and I'm sure many people do, but for me , that's not the point. Nokia stated that this would be included, and now it's not? Just feel let down again.

I'm hoping it makes the phone better to use, for example, why can't all the apps run like Opera. After my initial install problems, it now runs really well. The odd crash now and again on certain sites, but for me, that's waht otehr apps should run like.

Certainly don't want the phone locking up on me after taking a call.

If I can get my pc to work and get the upgrade, I'm going to give it a week or so, if there are no improvements, it's going up for sale, and I think it's end of the road for me and Nokia.

Sony Ericsson Satio anyone?

i'm sure the V20 software will come out quickly, how do i know this?

the N97 mini is out on the 23rd, so they need to get the new firmware out to us beta users, so that we can feedback to them

simples 😉

Reading on the other user forums about what is supposed to be in the v20 firmware, I doubt serious whether it will improve many of the problems on the N97.

NokiaUSA made the mistake of emailing me direct and asking for me to complete an online user survey about how I like the N97 and whether I would recommend it to anyone.

I rated it 1 of 5 in every category except style (which got a 2) and I filled the comments area with short descriptions of all of the problems which I have had until I ran out of space in the text box.

I have a gut feeling that the GPS issue will still exist - it may lock faster but it will keep dropping signal.

Also, wasn't that version 20.0.5 or whatever in REAL early stage? That version existed months ago. I hope by now they did add stuff to it.

I heard Skype can only be used by certain ISPs in Europe. Only recently AT&T allows Skype over 3G. They also have Skype out for 5800 phone (also only for 3 ISPs) but I wonder if AT&T's allowance of Skype means I can use 5800 version of Skype on my N97?

Are we hyping this release up way too much? It feels like it. I get the feeling that some websites are saying v2 is the answer to everything. I suspect however that in reality it will be far from the truth. I think I'm getting too hyped up for it.

Will Nokia fix everything (software wise that is fixable that is!)? I doubt it.

The longer we sit in this no news limbo, the less I expect from it to be honest.

There'll be nothing really new (ok, kinetic scrolling - but that's not new, just spreading) and some extra stability.

We won't be getting much in the way of shiny things I suspect...

Nokia should take a leaf out of apples book. tell us what we're getting, and tell us when we're getting it...

The suspense was killing me. But I think the bit of me that cared about this phone might have died... (obviously I want to be pleasantly surprised)

"Expect the worst... and hope for the best"

That way you won't be disappointed.

My personal feeling is that we will get the firmware in v20 that should have been launched with the phone in the first place.

My heart goes out to the majority of people who don't know about updating their firmware and are operating on V10 still.

I believe v20 is just going to bring the phone to what it should've been when it first came out.

With this in mind, I might be pleasently surprised with the update.

I can forsee us discussing v200 this time next year 😃
