The Nokia N96 also gets a big bump - to v30.033 firmware
Not as sexy as the N97's update, no doubt, but the Nokia N96 has always underperformed and I'm hoping that v30.033 firmware, also released today, will help the beleaguered flagship-of-2008 come up to par. v30 is a 6MB over-the-air update and installed smoothly on my N96. I'll have screens and comments here shortly.
Read on in the full article.

At the moment I only see the new Live TV (DVB-H)-client as new in 33.033.
But this is a very big "new".
Graphic Electronical Programm Guide and faster zapping.

Updating OTA now. I've always updated via NSU on my PC, never done it OTA before, so here's hoping it works!
I had to read the headline about 5 times. After waiting so long for the last firmware update, I wasn't expecting another one for at least six months.
Thanks Nokia!

I've upgraded!
I've upgraded OTA, and it's OK. Looks like Live TV! is moved from the Media folder. I've not seen any other improvements, except a slight performance improvement so far...

I had this phone & cannot believe people are still trying to defend it. As far as I am concerned from a hardware prospective it is a fundamentally flawed device that no amount of firmware updates are going to fix.

Come on Vodafone why still only v11
This makes the fact that Vodafone UK still haven't released anything beyond v11.018 of their N96 firmware versions even more annoying...

I was saying this quite fiercely until v20 which finally seemed to result in a relatively stable, ok-responsive handset. Nothing spectacular, but fine.
Just applied v30. Hope I don't regret that.
Earlier fws were as unstable as anything.

Opera Mini wouldn't load after updating, wouldn't even get as far as the splash screen. I had to uninstall and then reinstall. Anybody else had this?
Other than the "Live TV" app and renaming the "Breathing Light" to "Status Light" in Stand-By settings, it's difficult to notice any difference, really.
I like my N96 a lot, but it still takes 6-7 seconds to view a new text message from the notification on the home screen. By comparison, my work-provided E71 takes 1-2 seconds. It still also takes far too long to connect to wireless networks. My E71 is much quicker at this too, even when connecting to exactly the same network.
I'm inclined to agree with Super Chimp's comment, but I have no faith that the N97 and it's cost-cutting CPU would be any better.
Steve.

This typically happens with java apps if you restore them onto the phone from a phone backup that you took.

Calendar items on standby screen
But still only 2 upcoming calendar items on home screen. !!! Shame on Nokia!
This was so nice in my original firmware (11.x), the whole standby screen filled with items.
Can't beleive they took this off..

problems with f/w v30.033
I was unable to install the apps after I installed the latest version 30.033 on my n96. The installation progress bar didn't appear on screen, instead the screen returned to the sis file. It never happened before with previous f/w version. And I could not receive files sent via bluetooth, it showing that "unable to connect" on the other phone. There even may be more problems.
I think it is because of the firmware. Please somebody tell me what to do.
Thanks.
