The Phones Show 82, Video review of the Nokia N97
Should anyone be in a hurry for this (as if...), the YouTube version of The Phones Show 82 is now up and embedded below, with my video review of the N97. There's also a news section with shots of the iPhone 3GS in action, plus a no-doubt-controversial June 2009 'Top 5 phones'...
Read on in the full article.

Great review steve. Although I didnt really get an idea of what and where you feel the n97 fits in the market.
How do you personally feel about the n97? is it going to be your everyday device?

Will they ever learn?
When you have a huge screen to make use of, why is the list of widgets so tiny?
I guess there is no way to sort widgets in alphabetical order?

They are roughly in order, I believe. The list is a standard S60 UI widget, I guess the font size is fixed.

I thought I pitched it in the last few paras of the review? Yes, on balance, it would be my everyday device if I had one - alas, Rafe's now got my review unit, to do his review parts. We're hoping to get another N97 for long term testing in due course.

Thanks for the great review! There's another N-series phone that goes on sale this month, of which we haven't heard in a while. I'm talking, of course, of the N86. Have you received a test unit of the retail version? Can we expect a (video or written) review soon?

Hey steve, this might be a little off topic but when you think you're gonna have a chance to review the palm pre?
I've been using the handset for awhile and its starting to grow on me.

"the underrated n96". The number 96 was nokias biggest mistake. they should have called it the n95 16gig which also takes a micro sd and streams live telly and has a kick stand so you can watch feature films when the boss is out and is slimmer and streams just great and can open every email. e t c. e t c.
Yes I just put the latest software on my n96 an it makes it the best phone in the world.
Try one for a week steve, see what you think (yes the camera button is s***e).
Re xenon, just turn the light on in the room!!

Just to be clear, I called the N96 'potentially underrated', I still think that the hardware's got the potential to be better than the N95 8GB (apart from 3D games). The 'potentially' but is because I believe the device could still be a lot slicker and faster if Nokia gave it more firmware improvement love.
Of course, by the time they do get round to giving it v30 or v31 firmware, it'll be way too later, the QVGA ship has more or less sailed now....
Anyway, I was just saying that the N96 might not be as bad as many people said it was - as long as Nokia don't forget it.

How can you make a statement like this? Nokia has a history of forgetting phones. Haven't you got enough cribs about missing firmware updates?

Err.... what footage? The sample video footage has been on AAS here for months! The review of the i8910 HD will have to wait for a small but important detail - me actually receiving one - the Samsung Ambassador programme seems to have stalled, sadly.... Maybe next week (he said, not holding his breath)?

The UK Reading Nokia shop has a few N97s - I tried the keyboard and its not as bad as perhaps seems to be the case from the review here as AAS.

I seem to be spending my time recently looking for comparison reviews between the N97, I8910 and the Touch Pro 2. Will you at AAS be doing anything like that?
