The N95 8GB hits v31.0.015

The Nokia N95 8GB has now had its v31 firmware update, too. This went live a few minutes ago for unbranded phones. Any changes will be noted below the break after I've updated. Watch this space.

Read on in the full article.

Good news...

Does this also mean that a new firmware update for the N82 is in the works as well? Lets hope so...

N95 upgrade

The only difference I noticed with the recent upgrade on my N95 classic (non 8gb) was that I've now stopped getting a memory full error after every 3-4 days, which was introduced when I upgraded to v30.0.015.

Though it still flashes the side buttons when the screen goes into sleep (how hard can this be to fix?!)

browser

Can anybody report on the speed improvements to the browser? The browser was pretty fine when it debuted many moons ago but it just hasn't been keeping up with other browsers. It's too slow. I use Opera mini (a java app!) as my main browser, only using the nokia browser for flash based sites.

Those who like their phones hacked for extra customization options beware: the new firmware is unhackable. List of hackable/unhackable firmware versions: symbianism.blogspot.com/2008/11/which-nokia-symbian-phones-can-be.html

...and of course, I'll be the requisite Yank who points out that his North American variant is *still* stuck at v20.2.x.

@slitchfield-props to you for(finally) mentioning/listing the "hackable" status too.

Browser fixes!

Ah, at last they have fixed the annoying zoom-bug in the browser. If you changed zoom level to 50% and opened a new site, it dropped back to 100%. Now it stays in the 50%
Also seems that the browser does not crash so often.

Thumbs down volume control

I had hoped they get rid off the 10% steps in the volume control. How hard can that be to implement 1% steps? I never ever get the volume level I want so I switch it off again. Imagine the volume control of your TV would only have 9 different volume levels - wouldn't that be fun?

Unhappy Not available for US users

Which is a bummer... but would rather have a fully baked update than a rushed one.
