BBC iPlayer now for the N85 too?
According to the BBC, their popular iPlayer service is now available for the Nokia N85 (and not just the N96) - they've quoted the URL www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/ for N85 owners to go (on their phones) to get the new widget. Comments welcome if you can try this. It's also worth noting that the BBC are looking into releasing iPlayer for other Nokia Nseries devices in the near future, plus two Windows Mobile smartphones and the uber-camera-phone, the Sony Ericsson C905.

Only the N96 and iPhone is listed on the BBC website at the moment. But good to know that support for the N85 on the way. I love my N85 and having iplayer will put the cherry on the cake. I bet is the N96 will be forgotten about in 6 months time. I bet the N85 will become the biggest selling smartphone in 2009.

Thanks. Do please check once a day and shout if it goes live.
Yes, the N85 will sell like hot cakes, I think, that screen is gorgeous. Though the N96 will do well enough on its own merits... eventually!

I don't think it will do that well in the UK, The networks will not be stocking it direct as it is too similar to the N96, Vodafone for example have no plans to stock it, Orange aren't stocking it, in fact no UK network currently lists it.
The only way to get it on contract in the UK is too go to a 3rd party dealer like Phones4U, or you can of course by it Sim-Free
That is the problem when Nokia release two phones with near identical features and looks at the same time, the N96 is looked on by the networks as the flagship device, the N85 is ignored.

May I just point out that I downloaded iplayer.wgz and the latest version (v1.5.0) is working fine on my N85 already, both streaming and downloading.

Good point by Ratkat. A muddled release by Nokia of N96 and N85 at the same time means that those of us who want N85 on contract may not be able to get it. N96 was announced ages before it became available. Same will be true of N97. Nokia shoot themselves in the foot sometimes.

Is there anything wrong with going through Phones4U as a third-party provider compared to for instance Orange directly? I'm desperate to get this phone for my next upgrade. Thanks.
