Swim sync schedules back in place

For those happy to 'open sign' their utilities, note that Swim, the background sync tool for S60, has been updated to v0.41 and, notably, the scheduling problems of earlier versions are gone. In case you hadn't heard of Swim, it syncs your phone to Google or Ovi or GooSync, etc. automatically. And no, we still don't know why this functionality isn't part of S60 itself...

Unhappy Stuff like this makes Symbian so hard to sell...

The Nokia S60 phones are really quite sexy. Phones like the N95 and E71 draw looks from people and have won a few converts. One of my friends went E71 after using my N95 extensively, and one of her coworkers is seriously considering an E71 just after playing with hers for a few minutes.

It's a great platform with a lot of potential, but missing things like being able to out of the box sync makes it really hard for me to recommend. Having to sign small applications is even worse. Something like this was probably fixed with minimal code, but someone who is less comfortable with such things can't just download and use it. The personal signing process is fairly easy now, but it's still more hoops than need to happen.

Symbian really needs to shore up the little issues like no auto-sync and it NEEDs an application store like iphone. Our phones could do so much that the iphone is doing and winning market share with. Every one of those stupid little apps that people love so much (except the touch ones, of course) could be easily done with Python or the native SDK. It's just too damn hard for small time developers to get those programs to the masses...

Nokia, fix this!
