Automatically allow apps I trust to access network
Hi,
I've had my E71 for a few months now and I'm really enjoying it, and the Symbian OS.
However, I do have a few niggles. The major one is the dialogue box asking me to confirm that a particular app is allowed to access the network to send and receive data. Is there a way to make it remember my choice? There are some apps that I *always* want to be able to access the network without interruption.
Another is defining a default access point on an application basis. For example, if I keep my Skype client running in the background, and momentarily move out of network coverage, when the phone reconnects to the network, Skype silently asks me again which access point to use. If I'm unaware that this happens, I can be disconnected for hours!
(I should add, I mean for Java apps ;-)
Any tips gratefully received

S60's handling of connections is a but poor I think,
I can't answer your Java question at all
You might want to try Fring, which can connect to a Skype account, and is a native app so doesn't have teh Java connection requests
You can try Wefi (freeware) which chooses a connection when the application starts - taking Wifi if it's available. The problem is it doesn't handle things well if it doesn't find a WLAN, and I don't know how it handles the loss of a connection.
Bear in mind that I haven't spent ages trying this, so ther may be an easy fix. It's free so maybe give it a try.

If the java programme in question is signed (e.g. Opera Mini) you can achieve what you are trying to do.
1) Go to App Manager (usually in the Tools folder)
2) Scroll to the app you are trying to set permissions for
3) Options - Open
4) Scroll to Network Access and change to "Always Allowed"
5) You can also set a default access point if you always want to connect via 3G etc
I should say I haven't tried this on an E71 yet but it works on my N95 which is also a FP1 device so it <<should>> work on the E71.
Good luck.

Perfect!
That looks like it will do the trick - I can specify a default access point, so if it disconnects, it doesn't have to ask which one to reconnect to. Very happy about that!
Many thanks for your help!
