N95 Converting RM-159 to RM-160, is it possible?
I have a N95-1 with product code:0534834(Philippines) and rm-159 as the phone type, I was wondering if there's any way to convert it to rm-160...I've seen several threads about downgrading from rm-160 to rm-159 BUT NO SUCCESS! but what about the opposite?
I bought it in the Philippines (unlocked/unbranded) but when I came back to the US and put in my AT&T sim card, I'm not able to acces the 3G network but everything else works fine....I called AT&T and they told me that AT&T 3G network only supports RM-160 & RM-421 so that is the main reason why I would to know if there's any way to convert it to rm-160 or 421
-OR- any other solution in order for me to access AT&T 3G network.
any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

you cannot change it as it uses different frequencies between the US (850/1900) and Europe (900/1800).
This is a hardware chip located on your phone and you cannot modify it with software to use a different frequency set.

Yep..
I believe that T-Mobile in the US supports the GSM/UMTS standards that is on the standard N95-1 and N95-2. (N95-3 and N95-4 are the US models for AT&T/Cingular etc).
T-Mobile should be GSM900/UMTS2100

Hmm, I heard that *no* N95 currently supports the T-Mobile 3G frequencies, so I don't think that idea will work.

Indicates that T-Mobile's 3G Network uses 1700MHz and 2100MHz frequencies but I'm not sure yet if they support N95-1(standard) because if I'm not mistaken currently they only support about four types/models of phones that's why I still need to confirm this with T-Mobile

Alright, I called T-Mobile USA and they told me that they DO support my N95-1 but 3G is not available in my area yet not even at my work yet...so I guess I'll be waiting a couple more months before I switch to T-Mobile but its a good thing that I'll still be able to use my phone's 3G capability here in the US.
Sigh coz AT&T doesn't support my phone that's why I have to move my whole family account

I'm from the UK so I can't check myself, but I would be VERY careful before you commit to T-Mobile.
The reason I say that is because I have not heard of a single person that has an N95 (of any variety) that works with the 3G offered by T-Mobile USA.
But I've heard of LOTS of people that haven't got it to work.
Before you commit I would strongly suggest that you ask on the forums if anybody has successfully connected.

Thanks for the advice, I was actually hesitant about it not only because I'm taking a risk but also because I've proven it that T-mobile's reception/signal here in the US or at least to most places I've been to - their reception is very poor.
But how will I be able to maximize the full capability of my N95-1 especially the 3G capability if no other 3G network here in the US that supports 2100Mhz? It's such a great phone, has almost everything that I look for on a mobile phone....any advice?

Unless you start building your own 3G network, there is nothing you can do, except to wait for the carriers to do it.

Umm.. Did I not say that the N95-1 supports 3G (UMTS/HSDPA) on 2100Mhz?
Besides you should be able to use 2.5G on 1900Mhz..
I have had some of my clients roam with their standard GSM phones (eg. E61, N80, Imate/dopods etc) over to US on T-mobile without an issue.. (even Telstra in Australia recommends this..)

nokia n95-3,and 4 US 3G COMPATIBILTY ISSUES
hey guys,i think i got a better answer for this nokia n95-3,and 4 US 3G compatibility issues with Tmobile USA,we all know that N95 US version only supports;850,1900mhz umts&hsdpa(currently being used by at&t USA network),and although it have all quad 850,900,1800,1900mhz gsm bands,2-2.5G gsm+edge technology and not 1700mhz&2100mhz 3-3.5G umts/hsdpa,you can still use the 2-2.5 gsm/edge for your voice&data plan, edge is a temporary solutions for 3G umts&hsdpa compatibility issues.
believe me guys, ive had the same issues with my own n95 us version, what i did was i manualy search, and continuesly scan for my available netwoks, and it only scan for gsm bands, and not for umts/hsdpa.if you select umts only,it will then scan for the umts 3G,3.5 only networks.but the problem is only at&t shows up,and not tmobile, and also you cannot manualy select, and then roam on at&t 3-3.5G network, because of roaming issues and too costly for tmobile.,so what you do is you only can use gsm+edge,2&2.5G with tmobile, eventhough they have already lauched their 1700mhz,2100mhz 3-3.5G,umts&hsdpa recently, and not 850,1900mhz.
all i can say is,if you have quadband gsm and 2100mhz umts/hsdpa only handsets, look on the bright side, you can still utelize the 2100mhz for voice on tmobile,(because their 1900mhz gsm is too congested, and also lacking 850mhz roaming capability)now gives you better tmobile voice coverage, remember not data, although tmobile currently using 2100mhz downlink for 3-3.5G,you still need the 1700mhz for data uplink, you need both uplink/downlink compatible bands to successfully connect on 3-3.5G tmobile network.trust me ive done experiments on it,with so many different phone make&models.thats why i decided to voice out my opinion.thanks for reading, and correct me,if im wrong!
