GPS-less Google Maps just got more accurate

Google Maps for S60 (and also the Java version) just got more accurate, with news that Google has significantly improved its cell tower location algorithms for its 'My location' feature ("far more accurate") to take into account tower coverage areas - hmmm... I'd assumed that these were already taken into account.... No matter, Google Maps is free, as always, at m.google.com, and this will help anyone without a GPS in their phone or in areas of poor sky visibility. (via Google Mobile)

enhanced location

With enhanced location satnav in cities without gps becomes a more a reality together with a screen map. If the road density is higher somewhere, a rule of thumb more celltowers can be expected...

Just to let people know that this looks like it's a back-end update. I haven't updated Google maps for a while and there wasn't any new version available for download.

The dot is now right on my house (without GPS), so it has definetly changed.
Although I think this "accuraccy" is by chance as it thinks ive not moved when Ive actually moved a mile.

Problem is though when a proper update comes out, i8510 has Google Maps bundled, and wont install as a SIS file, so we could have to wait till FW update to update the software.

Sorry, what I meant is that its a potential future problem when a real update comes out.
