From iPhone 3G back to S60 - a nine-fold set of wins

iPhone 3G owner and blogger Tarek Esber has had enough of Apple's device and has gone back to an S60 phone. Here he lists in articulate detail the nine reasons why the S60 device is superior for his needs. An interesting read (via this week's Carnival of the Mobilists)

quite interesting reading.

The points are valid, genuine and without any prejudice. I am sure almost every iPhone user will agree with those points until and unless they are hell bent on defending it over symbian!!!

Notice the words in Steve's article - detail the nine reasons why the S60 device is superior for his needs. The key word here is "his needs". Please no one start a battle in the comments on why someone is stupid for saying this is better or that is better. Use what suits your needs in a phone.

as the iPhone 3G can connect to different headsets, and I have personally connected to Nokia and Sony Ericsson bluetooth headsets. That said, I think that for HIS requirements he is right to change back to S60. I also have an N95 and am trying the iPhone and so far I like it (although I do agree that here are some faults). Then again, I have never had a phone from any manufacturer that did not have faults, and in most cases they were corrected in updates over time so I shall see what happens in the next few months.

His point about MMS is interesting. I never really saw the point of MMS, and thought that the lack of it was a fairly weak criticism of the JesusPhone, but when roaming, it costs 12p to mms a photo to Moblog, compared with up to £7.50 per MB to post it to Flickr or Ovi.

Many of his reasons are also valid for Nokia S60 against other platforms, not just the iPhone. And it is with similar reasons I upgraded my N95 into a N82. I want the best mobile package with the best hard and software features and am flexible enough to cope with a less smooth userinterface. Though the caroussel, reminicent of a circular PS3 crossbar, is a very practical menu. It would be better if users could fill it with their choosen plug-ins and each plug-in having options to configure its behaviour to my liking. Hell, I want a plug-in for WRT's.

Why do you feel that someone defending something he or she may like is wrong? The iPhone has defendable points against Symbian just as Symbian has good points. It is about the best device for individual needs. Are you so blinded by brand loyalty that you can not see this?

Currently I have an N82 and an iPhone. They both serve different functions, and I would feel lost without either..

Symbian already has a better, more matured UI than the iphone.

Iphone doesn't have a better UI, its just that it has lesser options. As the users have started filling their iphones with third party apps, they've started to feel the need of folders, just like Symbian. Wait for a few months, Iphone's UI would look same as Symbian UI.

I am not blinded by brand loyalty. My point was only on "those nine points". What I was trying to refer to was, if " those nine Points" matter to anyone, they will agree to the reasoning put forward. I stand by this. typing on qwerty in better than touchscreen and so on.

As far as iPhone is concerned, I had the opportunity to play around with the previous version for full 3 days and I was hooked on to it. Full marks to apple for entering the market with such a brilliant device. But, I used it only for internet. My mails (which get pushed to my inbox through emoze), my apps where all on my n 82 and well, I use that.

iPhone is not good for media creation and consumption (at least i found that during those 3 days). I did not use my office docs on it (did not actually bother to find out whether I could do that or not). There are as of not 13 million people who think otherwise but then it is alright.

Just remember, my comment was for "those nine points".

Personal choices are personal. Its your money for your phone. buy and love what you want to buy and love and lets co exist
