Dogz is out now on N-Gage

The puppy simulator Dogz is now available from the N-Gage application's showroom section. If you can't see it in the showroom, select Options and then Update Now.

Read on in the full article.

Hmm... not too sure about this one, it's only 1 megabyte and the graphics seem down to Gameloft's usual jerky standards.

The graphics on Sims 2 Pets were a lot smoother than this, hopefully Dogz will make up for this with more gameplay.

We will be bringing you the review of this very soon.

I really doubt that the gameplay is anything better than the java version of the games.

Indeed it is fun the first 1 - 2 hours but after that it's just repetition.

My point of view is that if you have played a Gameloft game as a java version then you know how the same titled game will be on the N-gage.
(Which indeed was the case with the games that's been released up until now).

I haven't played the Java version, but however they compare, this is an awful game.

Sims 2 Pets for N-Gage at least had good graphics and a good interface (much better than the Java version incidentally), its only problem was that it ran out of gameplay. Dogz on the other hand has bad graphics and a bad interface, and not much gameplay either.

Which dingbat at Gameloft gave this one (and the rushed super-jerky Asphalt 4 for that matter) the thumbs up for general release across whatever platform? Tut tut.

Indeed you are right Tzer2.

I'm also quite afraid that my prediction in my previous post proved right.

There are some changes from the java version.
In the N-gage version you can earn points displayed as bones.

When entering a contest and failing in it (Touching a sea animal) you loose those points.
The points acts as your score in the N-gage arena. Not that much to celebrate about, but an ok feature.

I've currentely have 6 in the bar where the hearts are.
(If I remember correctly the java version had 6 or 7 as the hightest)

I wouldn't mind if a game is similar to the Java version as long as it is a good game. For example a port of Sola Rola J2ME would be VERY welcome on N-Gage, it looks good and plays even better:

The problem with Dogz is that it's a terrible game, whatever platform it's for. I'm in the middle of writing the review and this may well be the lowest-scoring next gen N-Gage game so far. All the other releases so far at least have some kind of depth or interest (Tetris for example is still addictive even if it's not exactly new), but Dogz has nothing to offer at all.

However much we moan about this though, Gameloft games continue to sell in huge numbers, and as long as that happens they're not going to worry too much about bad reviews. Asphalt 3 continues to be the best-selling game on N-Gage for example, despite many other titles getting better reviews. As I've said before, Gameloft is the EA of mobile gaming.
